    Smile A True Fan...

    Hey y'all!

The other day I was having a chat with my friends and someone brought up a topic fans. I told my point of view of being a fan and I was told that I'm not a true fan Maybe they're right, cause I still haven't figured out the meaning of true fan! That really got my interest.
Anyway, I'd appreciate your opinions on this one.
Define what kind of a fan is a true fan.
The more different point of views I get the better, thanx in advance!

well.. I think everyone can be a true fan.. there are many ways to being a fan.
You can be a true fan even you don't buy each CDs and books and other stuff.
you can be a true fan even you don't listen to your fave artist/band every day.
you can be a true fan even you don't go to all gigs your fave artist/band has.

That's my opinion.. and hope I'm not only one who thinks this way

A true fan is when you know everything about them, good and bad, and still love them. And nobody can change your mind.

I think these two have pretty much summed it up! Being a true fan is similar to being in love...You can see the faults and shortcomings, but love wins out! And I do love the man, no matter what faults he may have had, he was the best!

Daddy, I miss you more every day. You will always be my hero..

A true fan is a sensere person! That loves bad and good, never says bad and never believes in bad stuff about the dear person!

I think that a 'true' fan is something you can't really define. Everyone is different and everyone shows their genuine appreciation/love for an artist in different ways. Eg some people collect memorabillia/some don't; some wear Elvis t-shirts everywhere they go/some don't; some own (or aspire to own) every cd or dvd made/some don't; some have read every book on Elvis there is/some haven't, etc etc.

Which of these people are the 'true' fans?

I think the measure of whether you truly love an artist comes from within your own heart. It can't be measured by what you say or how many things you buy or what you look like. If you know you are moved by someone as an artist, you are truly their fan. True fandom doesn't have to be 'proven' - imho anyway.

    That sums it up exactly.

I sincerely agree with what you said, that there are several kinds of fan depending on his/her inherent personality. It is just like how you project your feeling to someone you love. Being a fan is like contracting a habit or addiction to someone or something that gives you pleasure and satisfaction. The fact is once you learn to appreciate something or someone in your own way and somehow become attached then you can easily call yourself a fan. That is how contagious being an Elvis fan
