He sure did look good in them - look at the StayAway Joe photos in the galley!! But I agree with Elvischick! I don't recall seeing him in jeans unless he was working. Even on his horse, he's wearing slacks!

No, I heard this answered on Sirius radio. It reminded him of when he was poor and that's all he had to wear.
That's right, it reminded him of the times when he was young.. On the 'Change of habit' set he wore Jeans to film the football scene. He told Mary Tyler Moore that it reminded him of the time he was young. He played football with the guys a lot before he was famous.. He came home all dirty and Gladys was mad because he had to wear those clothes to school the other day.
