There are so many beautiful versions.
The one from Memphis 1974 is really great, but my favorite must be the In Concert version from 1977.
To me, in a way, he sings it like he's completely into it at that point in his life. I get the same feeling I get with the My Way version from In Concert.
His voice is full and loud, and the way he holds that last note is just fantastic! Great version!

The on tour ('72 version) just kicks *** man.He sung it with such power and feeling.Yet another occasion which makes you proud to be a fan of the king:worthy:

the '77 is sure a great version too.I dont really have a faviourte but the on tour version is the first version that came to mind

I can't really judge this since I've only heard about three or four versions: studio, 1972, 1974 and 1977.
Of the four I know they all have their pros and cons.
studio: very contained and sacred but impressive nonetheless. But because of the instrumentation it does have a bit dated sound to it
1972 (from on tour): like many of the songs shown in on tour to me it comes across as a bit rushed and wild. Not bad! But to me a bit too rushed for the kind of song it is
1974: I don't know off hand what concert this is from (the version I have) but he totally messed up the ending (his voice broke in the last long note and thus he ends quite a bit off key). He apologized to the crowd, then started the finale again, and this time ends it perfectly.
1977 (the CBS TV version): quite good, although as I stated in some other post, it seemed during the time he was ill he often came across to me as "wanting to prove he could still do it/nothing was wrong, he was as strong as ever" and thus often resulting in that almost operatic "yelling" mode and doing "interesting" vocal effects during many songs. So, for me apart from those antics, this is a very good version, especially the ending
Just my personal opinion folks (gotta be careful these days)

Omaha '77 is certainly a favorite.
You can't shake a stick at the Grammy-winning version from '74 either, but I think Elvis bested that one 15 months later back in Memphis, as heard on the import CD Let Me Take You Home.

The 1974 version is beautiful
but the 1977 gives me goose pimples..so much power and emotion!! :worthy:
