Elvis to me was a brilliant man who was very articulate and who was heavily misunderstood and missjudged for being human. Sadly though he could have been much more than he was and a better performer had he stayed clean and away from bad influences towards the end. RIP and long live the King!

    John Wilkinson, phrases it beautifullly:

John Wilkinson - Thoughts on Elvis
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Quote:
He was a pioneer in happiness. His music could make you laugh or cry,
scream and yell, or dance. He gave us the right to shoot for the top.
Elvis was a man for all seasons, a man for all people. In all of my
years in show business I have never met a more compassionate, caring
man in my life. He showed me the value of humility, and he learned me
that we have to learn from our mistakes, as well as from our triumphs.
His music was for everybody: for little kids and their grandparents.
Elvis showed us the true meaning of love. If one of his friends was in
need, he'd be there. People know that Elvis was not just the greatest
star that ever stepped on a stage, but he as also a generous,
compassionate, caring human being. He was happy when other people were
happy. You could see the look on his face when he gave somebody
totally unexpected as a present. Unquote.

I can't say it any better, except, I love him, I think he knows that, lol
    (yeah duh) lol

Elvis is the King and always will be the king. He was a pioneer, he started it all. The best part is that he was a regular guy and that he cared for people and his fans. He always appericated his fans, not like these stars today. Do you see anybody else going around town and giving caddys away? No I dont think so. It is just ashame that I never saw him live in concert.
"When I was a child, ladies and gentlemen, I was a dreamer. I read comic books, and I was a hero in the movie. So every dream that I ever dreamed has come true a hundred times. I learned very early in life that without a song, the day would never end; without a song, a man ain't got a friend; without a song, the road would never bend; without a song. So I keep singing a song." - Elvis Presley

When all is said and done its the feeling inside which makes me a fan. He touched me with his voice from the moment I heard it. Then I saw him sing and put a face to that voice- and I understood the word "charisma" for the first time. I listen to him because his voice still touches my heart inside. He was special-if he wasn't why are we talking about him here. He is one of a handful of people in our lives who have touched and changed the world in some way. He was never perfect, he was one of us-yet different. Fantastic!

For me Elvis is and will be remembered for his humanity and closeness to his fans even though he was a legend alive and a very talented performer and that?s some of the reasons why there?s no one that have come close to what he was. When you have charisma, talent, a great voice, love for fellow men and big generosity mixed up you have Elvis Presley and since his death 30 years ago there hasn?t been no one that could achieve all this at the same time.

John Lennon said that: "Before Elvis, there was nothing". And i'll add that... after Elvis, there is nothing.

This is a very nice thread, thanks for starting it Raised On Rock.

Well....Elvis takes a special place in my heart and life. There's no day without his music in it...He wasn't like all the other celebrities. He was a star, but still he never forgot where he came from and who he was before he became famous.
His voice, his talent, his soul touched millions of souls, and still do.

If he could only see how much he is missed.......

This is something that I wrote on another site, a year ago, "If You Had a Moment With Elvis Right Now", before I metb .

    >I would say: "Thank you Elvis, for the life lessons.

    >Thank you for living your life to the full and caring for all on this
    >earth. You are ahead of your time. You knew, all those years ago,
    >that giving of yourself unselfishly is what life is all about."

    >(I would be thinking, as I care): "Your hard lessons in life have cut
    >the path for others to follow, and to learn. I know that 30 years ago,
    >not as much was known today with regard to medicine, as is known now.
    >I don't judge you. You were ahead of your time, you dealt as well as
    >can be expected, with the cards that you were given. I don't know who
    >could have done any better, and to not be hard on yourself. Look at
    >the good you have done, and think of yourself this way, instead of
    >treating yourself harshly. Take time for some tender loving care.

    > I wish you had more time on this earth with us. I would like to be
    >your friend, expecting nothing in return, except honesty, fun and
    >friendship and to learn from you, as you gave from your heart. This
    >giving of oneself is still rare in our world, and this wonderful trait
    >should be honoured and cherished.

    >I wish you peace and rest. I love you for who you are, not for
    >anything manufactured. I am always here for you, just call".

    What I have to say:

Even though Elvis is dead, in my heart he?ll always be alive and young. Before I loved Elvis I never loved anyone else and my love will always belong to the wonderfullest man that ever lived: Elvis Aron Presley.
I hope he will never be forgotten, no matter how long he?s dead.
But if it should ever happen, then it will happen in the time when no love is on earth any more.

I don?t know what else I could say.

It is my singular honor and distinct privilege to have known Elvis
Presley. It was also a great pleasure to have worked on his movies as
a background singer and later as a contractor, conducting the vocal
    choirs for his TV specials.

In a business where working with every major star becomes commonplace,
I could never quite discern my feelings of overwhelming emotion around
Elvis. In reviewing the passing parade of personal memories of him,
I'm once again filled with a sense of awe and wonder at such a worldly
innocent whose primary thought was of pleasing, helping, healing,
soothing and uplifting those around him; a man whos blessed everyone
by his mere prsence; a man so open, honest, and trusting that he was
completely blind to the evil intent of others.

My lasting impression is of a man whose generosity was without
limitation. As a child suffering the sting of depression poverty, he
insisted upon giving away his most prized possession. The giving never
stopped. It was his way of letting you know that you were the most
special person in the world--to him and to God.

It was for his love of all people everywhere that he dedicated his
work and for the last time, he gave his most prized possession...his
    life. And the giving continues.

In admiration and gratitude, B.J. Baker

    Dear Nicole,

This is lovely, he is a "wonderfullest man", I agree, lol.

You know, I was thinking of how much Elvis has accomplished. He was a gifted singer, in my opinion a wonderful musician. I loved to watch him. People loved watching and hearing him perform. I feel he was a really good actor, I loved Elvis' movies, I know he had his thoughts, but I loved them.

With regard to Elvis' singing, he took a song and turned it into a personal message for so many people, by putting such feeling into the words, his inflections, then there was the entertainment factor - WOW!

Elvis touched so many people in so many different ways, still does, and always will. We can read boards like this one, there are many teenagers who are now fans, his legacy will always be there.

For me personally. I feel that it was also a man who made Elvis Presley. No-one before him, he has to be so proud of that. He made that man, performing as the man he was.

We love Elvis for who he is without any of his talents, without a question. I would have loved for him to remember this, to know it, to realise how special he is and how treasured and loved he is by his fans and his family, especially Lisa.

What I admire the most is how Elvis handled the negative. Elvis wouldn't be backed into a corner, he never gave up, he stood tall, and showed them that he had the guts to be what he dreamed of being and what an incredible dream, an incredible mountain to climb, and he climbed it so well! No-one could stop him.
