Questions about the FTD An American Trilogy

I am considering purchasing the new FTD release An American Trilogy from the February 1972 recordings in Las Vegas through Elvis.com. Now I have a few questions about this release?

1)Who here has purchased it and listened to it? Can you give a short preview of the disc?

2)What's the sound like? Is it the same mix and strong Hi-Fi stereo sound that is on the mainstream February 1972 tracks previously released?

3)How would you rate this CD and EP's performance from 1-5?

4)Would you recommend this CD to a new fan or a non fan to introduce them to EP as a live performer in Las Vegas?

1. I have listened to it and I like it.
2. I believe that audio is the RCA recorded of the show. I don't know if it is high stereo or not. It could be but it sounds better than the previous release.
3. I would rate this at a 4.5. I would rate this is that you can really tell the splices between each song. Even though Elvis was at his peak on this cd the songs wasn't spliced that good. That is me. I can tell that they didn't splice between the songs good.
4. I would recommend this cd to anyone. But not as a live performer of Elvis in Vegas. I would recomend this as a good concert and that the person needs to hear it. For introducing Elvis as a Vegas performer, I would recommend either the following: Elvis At The International, All Shook Up, One Night In Vegas or Dinner At Eight. Those three are pure concert and not from different shows to make a concert.

Thanks for that information. I am seriously thinking of getting this based solely on the superb sound as was the case for the mainstream tracks from February 1972. FTD's cost way too much for the average Joe to afford. So I have to carefully decide when I do purchase one which one to get.

I can understand your hesitation as I remember back at the numberones.com forum last year you were repeatedly slamming RCA and FTD releases, claiming that you haven't bought an FTD in years ... That is a shame !

IMHO, this cd is absolutely fantastic, ("You Gave Me A Mountain" is simply outstanding), although the mastering has a bit to be desired.

The actual mixes for the RCA tapes are quite good tho ...

Hound Dog is an off the cuff, reverse fast, then slow tempo, which makes it rare and totally essential.

Proud Mary is another highlight, great vocal by "E", the band is tight and they could rock all nite !!!

I know your very critical of these cd's Jay and you probably wouldn't enjoy the disc as much as I, or the average Elvis nut, (especially the soundboard portion), and for $30 a pop, I know so ...

I say ...GO FOR IT !

From my experiance, FTD puts out some awesome stuff. If you're into wanted to hear Elvis do a song slightly different or just for the sake of collecting, they are far better than the "RCA" new releases or shall I say new re-releases. I know for a fact that both RCA and FTD are holding back on sound quality, probably for future remaster releases.
