    Antique Roadshow/Calling all Elvis Fans

Did anyone see this show, June 18, Antique Roadshow? It came on here at 7:00 p.m. You can watch the appraisal here:

They had a Guest whose name is Bobbie. She has this beautiful suit that Vernon donated to the Germantown Jaycees for an auction. She is looking for a picture of Elvis wearing this suit. They are trying to get a time frame when he would have worn it.

It was just what we hoped for in Memphis. A local ROADSHOW guest named Bobbi showed appraiser Beth Szescila a special suit her husband bought at an auction in 1975. Not the kind of men's wear you'll find in the mall, this handmade, one-of-a-kind suit belonged to The King. "It's no secret that Elvis Presley loved clothes ... and paid a lot of money for them," Ms. Szescila said. But she explained that as with all articles of clothing ascribed to Elvis, this black sparkly number might have a range of different values depending on whether and when the legend actually wore it ? and how well that can be authenticated. If Elvis wore the outfit during his 1968 Comeback Special, Ms. Szescila said, it could be worth as much as $100,000. On the other hand, if he wore it somewhat later, during the so-called Las Vegas era, then it would be worth closer to $30,000. If Elvis merely owned, but never wore, the suit, its value would decrease further to around $15,000. Ms. Szescila pointed out, however, that the suit does show wear and tear suggesting it was probably worn on stage. Bobbi also brought a notarized letter authenticating the suit, written by Elvis's father Vernon at the time he donated it for auction to the Germantown Jaycees. Ms. Szescila said, though, that if one can be found, a photograph showing Elvis wearing the suit will be the most important element in establishing its value. Still, at either end of that range, Bobbi's husband has done well on his $1,250 investment in a pop-music icon.

If you think you may have a photo of The King that shows him wearing this ever so fancy suit, ROADSHOW wants to hear from you!

I know about that suit. My book tells about the suit being on auction in 1975 but it shows no photo of Elvis wearing it in the book. The suit was never worn on stage at any time. We fans mostly know what suit he wore during a given night. 1969 is a little unknown but I think it is pretty known what suit he wore during that time. That suit would llike like it was made sometime after 1971. I am saying that because of the stones on it. I don't believe there was any suit that had stones on it until 1971 or late 1970.

This is a two-piece right? Could it be one of the one-day suits from August 1975?

You probably mean one of the one-day suits from March 1975. It could well be because the jacket has the same pattern as the 1975 "Rainfall".
Besides that Gene Doucette stated he also designed a black version of the 1975 "Rainfall". I't's not clear if he meant a two-peace or a jumpsuit.
But the design is typically 1974/1975.

But why don't they turn the collar inside out? If it is designed for Elvis it should bare the text "IC Costumes".

I have send an email message to the Antique Roadshow to provide the info I have. I also recommended them to get in touch with Bill Belew and Gene Doucette. I certainly hope to hear from them......
