Thread: How is Elvis? second name spelled?

  1. #1

Smile How is Elvis? second name spelled?

There are two different opinions on how Elvis´ second name was spelled. I don´t think he could have changed his second name to Aaron. His mother gave him the name Aron, so why should he have changed it? He loved her so much.

But I want to know what you others think of that.

If you think he diddn´t change his second name, klick on Aron.

    This is pointless.

He changed his middle name legally in the sixties from Aron to Aaron! There is no debate about this at all, so why the poll??!

    From www.elvis.com:

Elvis was named after his father, Vernon Elvis Presley, and Mr. Presley's good friend in Tupelo, Aaron Kennedy. Aron was the spelling the Presleys chose, apparently to make it similar to the middle name of Elvis' stillborn identical twin, Jesse Garon Presley. Jesse was apparently named after Vernon's father, Jessie Presley, although the spelling was slightly different.

Toward the end of his life, Elvis sought to change the spelling of his middle name to the traditional and biblical Aaron. In the process he learned that official state records had inexplicably listed it as Aaron, and not Aron as on his original birth records. Knowing Elvis' plans for his middle name, Aaron is the spelling his father chose for Elvis' tombstone, and it's the spelling his estate has designated as the official spelling when the middle name is used today.

Similarly, there is some slight confusion regarding the spelling of Jesse Garon's name. Most reliable resources have the spelling as Jesse. However, near the graves of Elvis, his parents and his grandmother at Graceland is a marker the family placed in memory of Elvis' twin, but the spelling is Jessie for reasons we have yet to determine. Jesse Garon's actual grave site is in Tupelo, MS where it has always been, but it remains unmarked by a tombstone. Lack of money in the family's early years was likely the reason. Then, once Elvis became wealthy and famous, the grave, which is in a public cemetery, remained unmarked most likely in the interest of privacy. Because of the spelling on the marker at Graceland, we tend to use the spelling Jessie to avoid confusion.

You're right And according to an email sent from Graceland......either spelling is correct. He signed everything Aron ; including his divorce papers and his will.
    I still use Aron....

I know all you're saying is right and the quote is from the official site srj, just wondering why the silver box set was called "Elvis Aron Presley"?

Presumably they wanted to use his signature as the boxed set's graphic, so they stuck with a facsimile of one of his signatures ...

I use the name Aron, when I write his name, too. It was the name he was born with. I just can?t understand why he would change it. It confuses me.

You've got the "official story" & then all the other stories.
IMO, IF he had wanted his name changed, it would have been changed.
I still believe it was Aron......his mama should know.
There's been many things EPE has changed.
Don't let all the stories confuse you.

He didn't need to actually change it legally because it had always been Aaron!! But he didn't know it ...

Toward the end of his life, Elvis sought to change the spelling of his middle name to the traditional and biblical Aaron. In the process he learned that official state records - of Mississippi - had inexplicably listed it as Aaron, and not Aron as on his original birth records.

    re

I think the spelling of A-R-O-N is more beautiful than A-A-R-O-N...but if h? liked Aaron more, than we have to respect that...but my vote goes to Aron
I'd like to go to Graceland
    Memphis,Tennessee

    Your right srj.

Some people however like to construct their own version of Elvis. As does EPE - but not in the case of his name spelling, in that EPE are correct.

When I was a young girl/teen in the 50 and 60's I always spelled it Aron....then in the later years when I saw it the other way (with the two Aa's) I thought, "What the heck?" Thanks for the explanation guys.

I will never forget you Rosanne.

Funny that these days any way to spell a name is acceptable! For instance, Leeza Gibbons! But back in the 30's there was only one "correct way" to do things. For whatever reason Mrs. Presley chose to spell Aaron "Aron" since they were twins, she probably wanted the names to match. Twins were often done that way back then - Ronald & Donald, Diana & Donna, etc. By the copy of the birth certificate - Mrs. Presley was only a year older than her husband. I thought she was a few years older than Mr. Presley! Good thread, Nicole!

Yeah, she did that when her & Vernon got married....
    It's a woman's perogitive, isn't it??

  19. #19
Yes, that's funny....but so unnecessary - she needn't have felt embarrassed about that fact at all. My mother was two years older than my dad and a close friend is also two years older than her husband and it embarrasses her too - didn't my mother though - guess it's all in how you perceive things.

Back to topic, I kind of like Aron not only because it goes better with Garon but because it's different - I like different!

    Diane.....
Actually, my first husband was 5 years older than me......my second 4 years younger & I was married to him the longest. That was a God-awful divorce....that's when I just gave up !!
As a friend of mine tells me, " Women are from Venus; men are from Mars."
I'm not too sure where men came from or why SHE invented them.....
Surely there was an alternate plan ??

BUT, I should have named my son Aron, I'm pretty sure .....
