I like this version better than the darker Way Down suit. It's too bad he didn't wear this one more often.

White Conquistador (aka) White Way Down Jumpsuit ((1972)-1974)
Although worn in 1974 this was probably made in 1972 with the Black Conquistador, the name Way Down is used from the sister suit the Black Way Down Jumpsuit. The names arrive from the single that was released in 1977 from the same name.
Known Dates Worn:-
March 1, 1974. (8:30 pm) Tulsa, OK.

geez! i thought that was a 77 pic, he is over weight there. but nice rare pic though. hard to find pics for this suit

The fact Elvis looked overweighted is only because all pictures are taken from the waist up, not in full length. During the March 1974 tour he did carry a little more but he didn't look terrible.
Is this to say that his jumpsuits never had names given to them until after he died?Originally Posted by Jumpsuit Junkie

No, every jumpsuit has a designer's name, but at the time it didn't seem importand. But it was after his death that fans started referring to albums, singles and events everytime they communicated about the jumpsuits. And so a second generation jumpsuit names was born.

Ok, several things:
1. Eve, great pics, and can you e-mail me copies
2. Is there a cape for this suit?
3. If it was made in 74, why is it named Way Down after the song from 77?
As for the suit itself, it's nice, but I like the Blue Nail better......
David, very good questions. Yes there is a cape for this suit. It has the same pattern as the "Black Conquistador" but with different stones. As a matter of fact this suit is has been on display at Graceland with the original designed cape.
It's not sure if this suit was only used in 1974. All 1974 designs were made with embroidery. Most suits Elvis wore in 1974 that were patterned with stones and studs were 1972 and 1973 designs.
I share your opinion about the name. We all know that the single "Way Down" was released in 1977. But still both "Conquistador" suits were nicknamed "Way Down Suit" by the fans. I guess you can't blame them. Most of them don't know the history and origin of suits.
Here is the pattern of the "White Conquistador" from up close.
I like this suit very much but prefer it in black.

"How do I get placed in situations like this? Ah hell, I guess it's all part of showbusiness "~ Elvis in his limo on his way to perform in Omaha, NE on June 19th 1977
