After being an Elvis fan for 20 odd years, Ive finally "gone off him" They way EPE is ridiculing him selling ducks and other cheap crap, having sick "tribute artist" competitions at Graceland, they way people in general take the piss out of Elvis. All girls I meet think Im a saddo liking him.
If all this Mickey Mouse merchandise is what you get after living life as great an pioneering as Elvis God help us all. Thank you Priscilla and Lisa for turning you father into a duck. If someone did that to my dad Id bit his balls right off of him. Im sorry thats it, if you disrespect him that much and love the dollar more than own fathers reputation you are sick people Im so disgusted and feel ashamed and sucked in. Glad I never bought any of your crap. I cannot beleive anyone would let people market thier own family in such a cheap dollar hungry manner.

Dave, there are two things. Being an Elvis fan and merchandising. A real Elvis fan can do without the merchandising because you're a fan because of the man, the musician. If you drop Elvis because of the things EP is doing than you have never been an Elvis fan to begin with. Elvis didn't invent this crap.
He was a man of giving, sharing. That alone should be reason enough to be an Elvis fan.
I can understand the revulsion you feel at the way EP is presented & marketed .....but, that's not Elvis.
It's also why I stay away from a lot of things the EP empire "puts on."
It's not the way I remember Elvis.
When I got into looking at the "Underground" , I was shocked at the things said about him. but I was shocked more by people that believed it !!
I've spent a lot of time trying to correct the image that some try to put across. All I can say is; do what you have to do at this moment.....but remember :none of that is Elvis. Do you really think if he was here he would condone all that crap??
You're right about one thing ; his family should be ashamed to allow this to go on. Elvis has become a "commodity" , not a person.
As a long time employee said to me ; "Elvis is a dead rock star on the hill."
This was supposedly said by the man that helped Priscilla start that empire, Soden.
I don't know the answer ....maybe soon it will all come crashing down on them. In the meantime; I buy nothing from "the empire" & concentrate more on the Elvis I remember.

Dave, I don't know how old you are but I get the feeling that your level of fandom is on a superficial level. I have been laughed at, ridiculed etc over the years because I am an Elvis fan, as far as I am concerned all those people who attack the fans are cretins, they are superficial.
Priscilla and LMP do what they do to earn $$$$$, I don't care what they do as long as Elvis is in the spotlight, if you truly want to know the real Elvis, you will investigate to see who he really was.... buying a cheap shitty ornament is never going to tell you who he was.

Perhaps before you wave goodbye to Elvis you might appreciate your own deep regard for him which is shared by your fellow forum members. If you have difficulties with the "machine" then (from a good number of threads here) I think you could see you are in the right place. Don't give up on someone you care about because so often he is captive to others and their money making schemes - on the contrary stick with him so that in the one person you are he might be liberated as he is in the hearts and minds of so many here.
If girls think you're a saddo liking him, then you haven't met the right girl yet.

People tend to forget that this merchandising started back in 1956.Ever hear of Elvis lipstick?The tacky products were around when Elvis was.They have always made good money.I dont see how that stuff could turn anybody off Elvis.Im a fan because of the music.

That would be the day that I would let anyone sway me from liking something, in this case Elvis. There's no doubt EPE does a lot of promotions, but like a couple people have mentioned, ignore them, as I do.

Elvis was a good human being and the most fantastic entertainer this world has ever known - the merchandising says nothing about him at all. It simply was and it for $$$$$$$$. You've confused the two and if you're so easily put off by being ribbed for being a fan then you're loyalty and caring was pretty shallow in the first place.
