how did elvis feel about gay people?
i have always heard the rumours, and noticed that durring the years with ELVIS he was never seen with a woman, in all the photos i have looked at durring the years it seems as though he had no women, i would think that E.P. would know if he was gay[especially the way he felt about them] would he have one as a close friend, he must have known that he was, especially since through the years, he never really had any chick to bring around.
how did elvis feel about gay people?
I always thought he was camp as a row of tents, myself.

I think he may have been closeted; it would have been very difficult to come out due to the times and the fact that he was a good ol' Southern boy, like Elvis.
But he did get married late in life though, so you never know ...
But whether he was gay or not, he was certainly in love with Elvis, and with being Elvis' friend and all the trappings that went along with that.
I know he was devoted to Elvis, but he never impressed me much. Too much of a sychophant - just look at his behaviour during the '68 sit-down shows. Charlie ruined those two shows for me.
I doubt very much if Charlie was gay. I don't think a gay guy would have been tolerated by the rest being the "macho" types that they were. I think Charlie was very awed by Elvis' singing talent and stage personality though and was maybe over enthusiastic about helping out wherever he could.
You might ask his wife .....![]()

During the filming of "Fun In Acupulco" Elvis was lifted by several men in a victory carry after his big dive from the cliffs. During filming of a take for this scene Elvis supposedly began yelling as they picked him up and he, redfaced, jumped down quickly at the word "Cut" In his trailer he told the guys one of the extras pinched his rear end. I think perhaps he was not to comfortable around gays. I'll bet it was funny to see him jumping down.
Funny story KPM - thanks for posting.......Diane
There's also that hilarious story about the blonde "woman" who had her pic taken with Elvis on the set of Live A Little, Love A Little ... turned out it was a man, and by all accounts, Elvis was a little upset!
There are a couple of pics of "she" and Elvis in a couple of Sean Shaver's books.
Charlie was no gay. He loved Elvis as a very close friend. Nothing wrong with that. Elvis had no problem with Gay people. Do you all forget he met Liberace? That was Mr. Gay haha.
Thanks srj, another funny story! Now I'll have to hunt that picture up.

I also was under the impression that Charlie was gay (and haven't been coming out about it). The whole group of men around Elvis were quite "southern machos", so openly coming out wouldn't be easily tolerated I think. And perhaps Charlie never really knew it himself? There are tons of gay men who are happily married (yes, it sounds weird).
And even if he was gay, so what? It doesn't make him any less of a man.

Hi elvs4evr,
Charlie wasn't gay. With regard to photos, the focus was on Elvis, and of course, people's relationships are personal, some like to keep them that way. I certainly do.
No offense, but there would be many photos that you wouldn't have seen.
Please also remember that Charlie was at work, I don't recall lots of photos of the other men with women, as they too, were at work.

Mr Hodge was known to take advantage of his ties to Elvis when it came to the many women they would encounter while on tour. The same goes for all the members of the touring group.

Does it matter one way or the other. Personally i think Charlie was gay. I don't think Elvis would have cared and i don't think Elvis had any issues with gays.

Now deciect is another thing as is being grab when you don't want it. Most of us would get a little upset at that.
What an absurd thread. There is no evidence at all that Charlie was gay. No one in the circle has ever suggested it, and there are no rumoured incidents to back up the claim. There are stories of Charlie hitting on women while on the road and yes he married after Elvis died.
How does this kind of nonsense even get started? Is it because of the joke gay routine Elvis and Charlie used to do with Are You Lonesome Tonight in the 70s? If so, does that mean Elvis was gay too? It's just silly.
I agree with you T.J, l don't believe for one moment charlie was gay.
