    Eyewear

    There have been several recent threads on how tall Elvis really was (between 5'11 3/4" - 6'2"). what I want to know is why did he need to wear glasses? Was he near- or far-sighted? Was it purely cosmetic? When did the need for eyeglasses appear? Thank you!

    Elvis wore glasses because he suffered from glaucoma...if I'm not mistaken the glasses first appeared around late '69 or the beginning of 1970.

    Thanks for the info. I think the eyeglasses came a little sooner. There's a "home movie" of him wearing glasses, someone informed that it was during the filming of Stay Away Joe - which would have been 1967? Anyway, thanks for the answer.
