Thread: Should the graves be relocated ?

Should the graves be relocated ?

Should the graves be relocated to the original burial place?
Since Graceland becomes a "Disneyland place" annex Museum, shouldn't it be more appropriate to have a place where Elvis and his family have a more respectful place.
Now Elvis grave becomes a Disney tourist attraction.
EP fans have respect but, to many tourists its, Hey heck , Memphis, let?s go and check out GRACELAND (That?s what EPE has in mind)
    Where is the true peace?

    What do you think ?

I don't know -the graves of Elvis and his mom have already been moved once.
If the home was never opened to the public and they were buried there- maybe it would bother me, but since it has been for years and it has progressively been expanded into a bigger tour I'm not sure how I feel. On one hand its already been turned into "an attraction" but a Disney type atmosphere might take away the "home of Elvis" idea and feeling.

    .

The graves should be left where they are. Elvis and his mother were already disturbed once, and that is enough.

Besides, if they were moved back to the original cemetery, then the amount of fans wanting to see Elvis' grave would destroy the peace and quiet, and then think how the families of others buried there would feel having to fight the crowds each time.

The way Graceland does it now is fine, and there is no need to change anything ...

I don't think they should be moved. Yes, even though Graceland has been become a Disneyland type place. The reasons is many why they shouldn't be move. One is that there will be some a**hole will do things on the headstone that shouldn't be done. Next, they will try to steal the body again.

The graves should be left alone at Graceland.

The family was afraid to leave Elvis at the first burial place, because of someone trying to steal his remains.

I dream a world where man no other man
will scorn. Where LOVE will bless the earth
    and peace its paths adorn...

The fan fare, media coverage as well as getting through the concrete above Elvis's coffin, makes it highly unlikely his grave will ever be moved.

As for it being a tourist attraction - Vernon left the general public in to see the corpse, im not commenting either way on it, but Elvis has been an 'exhibit' since he died, it's not going to stop anytime soon.

And on the night of August 29, 1977 that is what almost happened when Ronnie Lee Adkins (now "Ron Tyler"), Bruce Nelson, Raymond Green & Gary Oscar Travis were arrested in connection with the attempt to steal Elvis's body from his crypt at Forest Hill Cemetery Midtown mausoleum.

They were charged with trespass. They couldn't be charged with attempting to break into a grave or grave robbing because they were frightened away before they actually tried to do anything.

I heard from Ron Tyler himself (via a conversation on AIM that I had with him regarding the bodysnatching attempt) that the whole thing was a 'setup' by Vernon and he to make sure that Memphis city officials approved the relocating (and not reburial) of Elvis and Gladys back to Graceland.

Add to that the fact that you'd have to have very heavy machinery to even break through the tons of concrete that seal the crypts...

    Amen to that.
They should stay at Graceland and not be moved again.
Some of you all never been down South too much...
I'm gonna tell you a little story, so you'll understand where I'm talking about

No way should those graves be disturbed. EPE should move the "Disney" away from Graceland. I personally do not think it is "Disney" at the present time.

    Leave them be.

He rests in peace in Graceland soil. His beloved home.
I don't think people who have passed away are disturbed by people here on earth.

I mean they have eternal peace where they are no matter that fans and tourists come to visit their graves by bunches.

Remember dying is leaving your earthly corps and the spirit is wherever he wants to be IMO

He's at Graceland where his heart was and should be left there........Diane

It wasn't "done right " the first or second time ....why would moving the graves a third time help?
Just leave them alone. Graceland {the house} has been made an historical monument . They're best left there than trying to move them, IMO.

Regardless of whether the body snatching plot was real or a set-up (and I've heard convincing stories supporting both theories), the fact remains that Elvis and his mother have been laid to rest at Graceland for almost 30 years now and millions of fans have filed through the gates to pay their respects to them both...why change that now?

I'm sure if he could tell us, Elvis would say that he is humbled by all of the fans that make the journey just to spend a few quiet moments reflecting on his life and legacy...

I disagreed with a lot of things Vernon did about the funeral & moving bodies. As did Elvis. But, it's a moot point 30 years later.

Lisa owns Graceland not EPE anymore. It's up to her what she does with it.
I don't think she'll allow it to be turned into Disneyland on her property ; but all around it....who knows??
As some has pointed out here . Graceland is in a bad neighborhood now. It might help to return it to where one can walk in safety .

And, Tony's right ...there was a fake "body snatching", all done with Vernon Presley's permission..

There is no charge to walk up to Meditation Garden. There are just certain hours one can do that . All nice & legal. It has to be that way.....
