I've read that it was because he liked Tony Curtis' hair.
I often wonderd about this and i heard some people say it was because his mother had black hair, did she dye hers black? i am not complaing he looks great with black hair.

I've read that it was because he liked Tony Curtis' hair.
I've always read that Hollywood asked him to dye it for one of his early movies, & it looked so good he kept it that color.
Maybe he was teased as a young child about his hair being cornsilk blonde. I like the reason about wanting it to be the same as his mother's, that's a new one to me. Are there any pictures of him with white hair? (Not the colorized ones, I've seen those!) Ronnie Tutt wrote that he looked good with white hair.
I also had heard that it was because his mom's hair was black. But either way he looked good.
I read that, Elvis wanted his blue eyes to stand out more and for him, the lighter almost blond hair when he was younger didn't make them stand out...

... and vanity no doubt played a part in the latter part of his life.
I think he would've looked good with grey hair. If you look closely in a lot of 70s shots, there's grey coming out in his sideburns and temples.
He prolly did, in fact, do it for the movies in the beginning but later on he started going prematurely grey and that's the main reason he dyed his hair....
Because he wanted to look like Tony Trout....errr I mean Tony Curtis![]()
"Don't tamper with the property of the U.S. Male"
Because he wanted to be different from everybody else. But he wanted the same colour as his mothers. This is what i believe !!![]()
I kind of think he just liked it black
I've read all of the reasosn above and i've also read he dyed it black becasue he liked Roy Orbison look.
What year did he start dying his hair really black, i know it was still fairly light in the 50s through the army years.

Well I know his hair was Blonde color like dirty blonde. And times off some of his family members told me the blonde would come through in early 70s. Because in later 70s he was on road to much to just let it dye out.
I know my hair was blonde color and when I started in business I buzzed my hair dyed it Black Pearl and when it grew back it came back black and I haven't died my hair since. I think that was just dumb luck.
Love to all,
