    Sonny West's new book...

Sonny West's new book is available for pre-order, it sounds like it might be interesting, but I just don't want to keep reading the same thing over again..

Elvis : Still Taking Care of Business - Elvis Presley Book
In this unique and intimate volume, Sonny West, Elvis Presley's close friend and bodyguard for nearly two decades, provides a no-holds barred, first-hand depiction of 'The King'. 'Elvis' is packed with previously unseen photographs and untold stories about Presley's personal and public life - learn why he refused the not-so-subtle advances of Ursula Andress on the set of Fun in Acapulco, uncover amazing personal details from Presley's historic meeting with the Beatles, and discover the secrets behind the King's famous handshake with Richard Nixon in 1970. This will become a treasured addition to the collections of Elvis fans everywhere.

I have to wonder why anybody would waste their money on his book.. he betrayed Elvis... now we are suspose to support him.. do not think I would even want to look at a book of his.

    As I've Told Others .....

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions.

    But, if you were "my friend" ,I'd expect you to keep my secrets after my death as well as when I was alive.......{of course Sonny didn't ,did he ? }
    My mistake ......

True enough ajr, and if someone wants to hate , dislike or not even consider
the ideal of Sonny, Red or this book I won't say a word to try and change their mind. I kinda wanted to comment on the friend part though. Elvis was a good guy , more good then bad but It doesn't sound like he was all that easy to
be friends with at the end.
If you were my Friend I probably won't let you work for me in the first place, but if I did and I had to fire you, I'd let you know myself. Bleep happens though and
people get mad and fly off the handle. They all hurt each others feelings in the end but Unless it was a fake Elvis made peace with the Wests on that phone conversation that was taped. The only one he seemed to hold a grudge against was Hebler who incidently is the one that said almost nothing but Nasty stuff in that book back when.

Nope, I'd never hire a friend to work for me. Seems it would be uncomfortable for both . I lost "a friend" once, loaning her money.....on second thought I guess she was no friend../ Oh well.......live & learn....

I don't think Elvis was easy to get along with . Think I would have left though before it got too bad.
One thing I do agree on....Elvis should have fired them himself not left it to anyone else....just my opinion.

I am not really interested in Sonny West's new book-as the post above says-I do not care to support him either- I read his first book years ago and that was enough for me. To each his own, I guess. Dovey

    Cool

Hebler was the one Elvis seemed to hold the grudge against the most.

Don't forget, Elvis left town and got his dad to fire Red & Sonny - two guys who really only knew one thing. Elvis Presley.

Although there wasn't much need for the contents of the book, according to most the book is relatively accurate, of course some fans won't accept Elvis was capable of anything in that book.

I am looking forward to receiving this book....
The thing is that Sonny doesn't need to appease Priscilla and Lisa the way that Joe and Jerry do, so he can say what he would like to say without worrying about upsetting any of the family....I don't think this is his intention though.....I think he just finally wants to get his message across. There will be a lot of people who won't touch the book with a barge pole, and I think he knows this.

Just one question.....how do we know Elvis had Vernon fire them??
I know "it's been written" in books . But, what if Vernon did the firing on his own?? Just going by "other books", this was not the way Elvis tended to do things. He was quite capable of firing his friends for awhile, then hiring them back. It just seemed "out of character" for him to do things this way.

It sounded more like Parker , IMO.

thats why i hate all books on elvis they all claim facts-most of the things written in them is garbage they add fake stories to make sure the book will sell---many elvis fans take everything written on him as 100% true -in my lifetime i have never bought a book on elvis written by his so called close friends..and i never will-elvis is no longer here to defend himself-- so all the books present and future are blahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh to me-yes He was quite capable of firing his friends for awhile, then hiring them back he did this a few times-why he didint face the wests and fire them is kinda of a mystery--seems they say so the story goes elvis asked is dad to fired them ....i dunno but either way good ridence they deserved it -so vernon did it was elvis dad thats good enough for me and he should of fired all the rest of those MM-AND GOT FRESH NEW PEEPS TO WORK FOR HIM-elvis was the grestest- thats all i need to know

True. Compared to some of the other stuff thats been written (Albert Goldman) that book was IMO fairly tame.
It told the bad stuff but over and over Red and Sonny
told a lot of the good too. EP would have preferred that nobody knew the bad, but had he lived longer maybe it would have kicked him in the butt to clean up. I'd like
    to hope so.

Like I said earlier in this thread, unless its fake and to my
knowledge nobody close to EP has ever even said it was
There is a tape out there of a phone conversation where
Elvis called Red and they discussed it , admitted they both basically hurt each others feelings and more or less came to peace. At the end I remember more or less them saying they'd see each other soon and if there was anything they could do for each other yada yada. Sounded Just like two good friends that had too much to drink and had a fight and were meeting the next day to talk about it .

YEP Thats the tape. Wish they hadn't censored the heck out of the transcript though its still obvious to me that they were still friends . That whole Racquetball stuff and the FBI was lurking around too that was a weird time. I don't think we'll ever really know whats up.
