And In 1976 it has been 22 years when he recorded That's All right-(Mama)

This would have been an Fantastic release for ftd or bmg market release.

and this wasn't a bad concert from 1976.

and i am playing a cassette tape copy that i have forgot i had.

new show for me to play.

jb, you ought to give that one a listen!

A couple years ago at the end of Elvis Week, I was driving home from Memphis. It was late at night, I was the only one awake in the car, and I scanned my tapes for just the right selection. For obvious reasons, Goodbye Memphis seemed appropriate. For whatever reason, I really enjoyed that show that time more than I had before, and I have since had a great appreciation for it.

It's definitely one of the better shows of '76; the summer of '76 particularly is considered a not so great period by many, but I would think most fans would enjoy this one. It's a longer show than most, with a few special treats, Elvis is in great spirits and strong voice, and the sound is superb.

    Good call, Curtis.

Well, what did you think of it, jb?

Examining it along with the Memphis show from '74 released by RCA & FTD, and the '75 show captured on the import Let Me Take You Home...The '74 show was very exciting, with lots of great fast-paced songs; the '75 show featured Elvis in his best voice, delivering what I believe to be some of the best versions of the songs performed, but not the most interesting song lineup; and the Goodbye Memphis show had Elvis singing in a perhaps slightly weary voice, but with plenty of intensity, and with surely the best repertoire of the bunch.

    Well, in my opinion anyway.

BTW I've never heard the Hello Memphis show. How would those of you who have heard it compare it with the officially released Memphis '74 show?

    I AGREE BOBBY!!!

Of all the Memphis shows, for some reason, I just think the GOODBYE MEMPHIS show is the best of them....he throws in a couple of songs in an "off the cuff" manner, his voice while not the strongest I have heard, is certainly very good, and above all, he just seems to be having a great time!!

Definitely a show that should be heard....maybe FTD will decide to release this one someday?!?

I agree whole heartedly with you guys. I was lucky enough to have been at the 1976 show and felt blessed to have seen him sing such a good repertoire of material and such a long show

. I have all these Memphis shows on cd and, even though I was at the 76 show, I enjoy listening to the 75 show the best. (both are equally great, the FTD release and the bootleg "Let ME Take you Home". ) But something about all these shows have me listening to them more often than any of his other live recordings. Being from Memphis, maybe it's just psychological, melancholy kind of thing, but I feel Elvis really put forth an effort ( more than usual) to please hometown fans and put on a good show.

I recommend ALL the Memphis recordings.

They're a good overview of 74-76 tours too ( in my humble opinion)
Got my family, my kids, my books and my music, I'm good, yeah, I'm good.....
