Moving to the states? advise please.....

I am a well educated young man from London, England.
For a while me and my wife have been thinking of buying a home in the states, however we know that we wont just come and instantly be in work etc.

However I was wondering if anyone had advice on where for ?expats? and just where to find work and what cities are nice. We have been thinking about Florida (I have) and my wife would like somewhere central/south so its quite hard agreeing and if anyone on here is a brit living in the states that would be cool.

the Qualty In Food is better in north and west .

I am from Leeds England and now live in Michigan.I came here in 1987 when I married my wife.It then took me another three years to get completely legal. I love America it is my home now and in 1996 I tookmy citizenship test.
I don't know what your situation is but it is not easy to come to the USA,my sister has been waiting two years to get in and was told it may be another Eight.
America is a wonderfull country and I would'nt live anywhere else and I would encourage anyon to come here to live .I live in the North with hot summers and cold winters and a reasonable standard of living. The South is very nice too with milder winters and more work than up here in the north. However I don't like Florida too much as a place to live .I think do think its ok as a retirement State though.
All the best in your endevour

Yes, the southeastern states have a pretty good job market right now.
One thing I will caution you on is real estate prices; they are sky rocketing, at least here in my area of Georgia. Better have some pennies saved $$$$.

I hope it works out for you...would be happy to call you "neighbor"

I'm also from Michigan. The housing market here crashed a little over a month ago, and we had to take our small mini farm off the market - for the time being. It's a nice state but the economy up in this area has been really bad for the last year, jobs are really scarce etc.

BBM is right, the southern states on the coast are still doing well, the southern part of Maine and Washington states, these are all I know of. I've heard that the best job market is in North Carolina and Washington state but BBM would be more certain of North Carolina as that it is closer to his area.

Real estate is very high in Florida, I don't know about the job market there. California is also very high for housing but the job market is still good.

In any case, best of luck, I hope you find it easy to get here and that wherever you end up will make you both very happy. Best of luck, Diane

Im originally from Northern Indiana but we have since moced to South Carolina. We are not far from Charlotte North Carolina where I work.We can get in the car and be at the ocean or the mountains in under 3 hours. The climate is exceptional here. The summers are hot but the winters are also very mild.I only saw snow once this year and it only lasted a few hours.Charlotte is a growing city with job opportunities available.I cant imagine living anywhere else but in the Carolina's after being here for 8 years.

Maybe You should go to U.S Embassy in England , and get more information from them, or google it, i believe there are many websites out there made by Englishmen live and work in United States..

The state where i used to live ( Oregon ) is beautiful, many different people from different part of the globe ( mostly Irish ).. and they are very friendly. they dont have sales tax, which is good, but cost of living there is expensive...

I'm from Covington, KY - Cincinnati, Ohio area and now reside in Tenessee. I must say that I love living in Tennessee. Yes, the Southeastern states are cheaper than the northern states. I love Tennessee because of the wide array of music here, The great smokey mountains are only 3 hours away - you're close to 3 major interstates - I-40, I-65, and I-24. I've lived in Tennessee now for 11 years.
