Thread: Elvis and the Beatles

    Cool Elvis and the Beatles

When Elvis met the Beatles at Gracelands during the mid 60's apparently this milestone in musical history was not recorded in any way, apart from a few pictures taken by fans of the Beatles outside the house and on the driveway.
I however find this hard to believe especialy if Col Tom Parker was present and as we all know they were supposed to have "jammed" together for a good while too, does anyone know if any recordings and pictures/film exist.

    Beatles

Firstly, it wasn't Graceland (no s, by the way). The meeting took place at Elvis' home in Bel Air, California on August 27, 1965.

Secondly, all of the Beatles are on record saying that no tape player was running nor any pictures taken; I tend to believe them. If it had been recorded, we'd have heard at least a bit by now.

It's a shame, as this would be an amazing listen ...

Didn't he also meet individiually with Ringo and George a couple of times? I think Ringo went back stage in Vegas, might be where George also met with him.

Ringo saw Elvis in Concert in Las Vegas - February, 1970. George Harrison saw Elvis in Concert at Madison Square Garden in June, 1972.

John Lennon and Yoko Ono was at all of the Madison Square Graden concerts.

As for the meeting with Elvis. There was no tape recorder and srj1967 is correct. Paul, George and Ringo are all on record that there were no pictures and recorders during the session itself. They have said that many times. Watch The Beatles Anthology to see them talk about the session. The only picture that is taken on that date is the picture on the link that was proved.

I have always read that Lennon was at the MSG shows, but I got into a discussion about it with a Beatle fan who said Lennon, in a Playboy magazine interview, denied he went to the MSG show. So I'm not as sure as I thought I was about it.

i always heard that Lennon went to the MSG shows...that's also written in the little book inside of the cd: An Afternoon in the Garden.
but to get to the point,it's really a shame they didn't recorded this jamsession...but afcourse, they just wanted to have some privacy
I'd like to go to Graceland

I thought there was a pic of him going into the garden with his "I love Elvis" pin or something like that attached to his shirt or jacket. I've definitely seen the pic, though I cannot say whether he was entering MSG or not.

I know the diamond Elvis pin you are talking about, he wore it to several events in 72 but unsure about the MSG show. As I said a Beatle fan says he denied going to MSG in a Playboy mag interview. I have never read the interview so I can't say if its true. The guy was trying to convince me that John Lennons love of Elvis was exaggerated and that was one of his points. I'll try to find on the internet if this interview went as I was told.

I did a quick search and did find the Playboy interview from 1981 right before Lennon was killed. I did not find any comment about not going to the MSG conerts. I think Lennon did other interviews with Playboy before 81 but could find no other ones posted anywhere. So maybe this guy was just pulling my chain to make his point-but I can't be sure since Lennon probably was interviewed more than 81.

I was backstage with Charlie Hodge at Memories theater one time at Memories theater in Pigeon Forge and he told me that it was only Paul, and John who stayed and jammed with Elvis. He and Ringo and George went out back to smoke some pot. After the Beatles left the Bel Air house in '65 Elvis turned to Charlie and said "you know with all the money them boys are making you would think they could afford to fix their teeth" thought that was pretty funny.
