Thread: Penguin Jumpsuit (1975)

  1. #21
I have to agree with elvispresleyfan1935:

This suite might have looked bad but the White 2 Piece Suite Elvis wore in April of 1975 and maybe March Elvis looked great in it.
Some of you all never been down South too much...
I'm gonna tell you a little story, so you'll understand where I'm talking about

It's a pity people are still calling these suits "Penguin Suits". It's a nickname. Officially they are called "Two-toned Street Suits". They were designed to make Elvis appear slimmer.

These two-toned suits were not my personal favorites but I feel he carried them off well as he did everything else. He wore several articles of clothing that no one else could have gotten away with.

    re the two tone suits

i really liked these suits i know he had 2 brown, and tan , white black and blue , i was also interested , i read in time magazine some years back that gene made a red one also[never seen the red one] , the reason everyone calls this the penguin suit is because that's what most fans called it back then, shaver was the first to show photos that judy palmer took of E.P. wearing it, just like the panda suit[as fans first reffered to this suit, the one he wore in chicago, and kansas, with paisley shirt] the real name for that suit was called b/w casual, and there were others like the red blue colour scheme.green and white colour scheme, E.P. had quite a few over the years especially staring in late 71.

This is something that only Elvis could pull off, its a good looking suit.
"When I was a child, ladies and gentlemen, I was a dreamer. I read comic books, and I was a hero in the movie. So every dream that I ever dreamed has come true a hundred times. I learned very early in life that without a song, the day would never end; without a song, a man ain't got a friend; without a song, the road would never bend; without a song. So I keep singing a song." - Elvis Presley

Agreed, its not your everyday suit

From what I've read, Elvis was not too keen/fit to go on stage on the 19th August 1975. So he could have opted to stay with his normal street clothes that night! Perhaps that's why the suit, as far as I know, was worn only that night.

I don't like this suit at all. Sorry.

Too be honest, theirs really not one thing i've seen Elvis wear that I didn't think he looked good in.

Elvis was just so dang cool, he could look good in no matter what he wore. Including the two tone street suite, and the N Neck jumpsuite that often get ridiculed by fans...

I never cared for the suit that much.......I think it's ok....but I prefer the other two piece suits
    over this one.

Its a private wardrobe 2 piece and there were a few of them
White/black Black /white darkblue/lightblue Beige/brown I know I miss a few but these come to mind at first.
Also long coats for each !
I like them but its a matter of taste (It makes Elvis bigger ahumm)
It was also fashion in those days to have two tone clothes.

Thank you very much for the information about this jumpsuit.

Certainly is not the most beautiful jumpsuit worn by Elvis, and I can not say I like it at all. I Love Elvis' Jumpsuits. Most of them are a true work of art. Little kisses.
Lord have mercy...I'm a devil in desguise!
