Elvis Voted No.1 Singer Ever In 'Q' Magazine

In the March Edition of 'Q' Magazine, Elvis has been voted No.1 Singer Ever with Aretha Franklin at No.2 and Frank Sinatra at No.3.

Elvis will always be No.1 for me.

    Q

Personally, I wouldn't even line my bird's cage with Q magazine (pretentious gits), but it's still a nice result.

What criteria did they use for the rankings? Was it anything specific or a panel of "experts" just putting in their two cents' worth?

And what 10 songs did they use for EP's list?

I'll try and snaffle a copy when it gets to Oz.

I am always dubious about lists like this: you can't prove Elvis is Number 1 (unless we're talking record sales or other specifics). It's a matter of belief and faith.

I'm sure there are some young kids out there who'd rate Justin Timberlake as No. 1! Ugh!

Nice one Brian, more youngsters getting the message. Of course Elvis Presley is number one...he has been since he first hit the top of the chart back in 1956.

What a remarkable voice to win over so many generations in his own lifetime.

    Unprecedented!

Thanks Brian, that's the kind of coverage we like to see.

Of course Elvis Presley will always be #1 - I can't think of anyone that would even come close to the King!!! Elvis is and always will be #1, with younger generations loving his music to those who were able to go to his first concert....... and they still play his music on the radio today....

While there are some questions about that list, there's no doubt who should be no.1, great job! Thanks for the link Brian.

Looking at this result in depth it appears that the sales were only for those singles that reached No.1 and only male artists were eligible. Even if female acts were eligible the Top 3 results would still be the same.

Still it shows that the combined sales of Elvis' No.1 singles sold more than the combined sales of the No.1 singles by other artists mentioned.

Amazing when considering he never appeared in the UK or even appeared on TV for an interview.

I spoke to Sony BMG(UK) about the result and they state that they were never consulted about the programme and even if they were they would refuse to give out details of any artists record sales as it is not company policy to do so. I can understand this dilemma, because if the record company stated that Elvis had sold say 20 million records then you can guarantee that Michael Jackson or others of his ilk would immediately claim they had sold 30 million. Farcical really. I think we all know who is the Greatest Record Seller of All-Time.
