    Question RE: Hurt

I have a question for all you knowledgeable Elvis music historians. Last night on Elvis radio, The DJ there played one of the live "double Hurt" versions. Do any of you know when Elvis first performed Hurt live? I know he didn't record it until 76, but the DJ said this was from 74? Anyone?
    Please and Thank You!

Find the CD of Southbound which has the whole concert of Macon, Georgia August 31, 1976. It contains two bonus tracks and one of those tracks is Hurt from March 17, 1976. Look at my avatar and find that cd.

    You were there? Niiiiice.

That last Memphis show was really special...sounds that way on CD anyway. They were all great and he might have been vocally in better form the year before, but that Goodbye Memphis show (July 5, I believe) is the most entertaining one for me...which I haven't listened to in far too long!

Other standout performances of this song to me are Dallas and Birmingham '76 and Indy '77.
...you won't forget me when I go.

First time was in Johnson City, TN. March of 1976 and very first show he did reprise because everyone loved it and from then til last show in 77 he always song it. It was always song people wanted to hear because it showed his power and range that no one could ever come close to.

    Love to all,

Yeah, I was there. (dating myself now), with my brother and father. It was amazing. I remember this song, and a few others, real well because of the delivery. Powerful, also America was too, had the crowd on their feet with hands over their hearts. A great time.

Fantastic. That America The Beatiful performance was great, and I'm sure the Memphis crowd absolutely loved it. Do you have this recording or have you heard it?

By the way, I stopped dating myself years ago. No, I wish I had a few years on me so I could have seen some Elvis shows and be old enough to remember them.

Yeah, a few years ago I found the cd and bought some extra for my dad and brother, I also found the cd for Memphis 75 that my Mom was at. If you listen to that one there is a girl that screams out real loud and Elvis responds by saying "I'll be up there in a minute" or something to that affect, that was my mom. It was amazing to listen to that cd and instantly remember songs and things that were said, that I had forgotten about. My mom felt the same way and called me up after she listened to it a few times. THen I found some really clear pics of both concerts and then I found the HWy 51 south book by Tunzi that has the photos the Commercial Appeal shot of those two concerts. All in one year. Great stuff.

How cool is that! Discovering those mementos all those years later and having those memories rekindled like that is something special, I am sure.

Very fortunate too that the sound on both those CDs is really, really good.
