Ftd Idea - Elvis Summer Festival Box Set.

I can't wait to get my hands on the FTD Live In L.A Book and soundboard as Elvis was according to many to be on great form showing Led Zeppelin, who were in attendence, how to rock.
American Trilogy looks fantastic too, a real class show.

I would just like to say how much I enjoyed your recent interviews with the EIN [top class by Piers as always] and www.elvisbrasil.com concerning future FTD releases.

Many of the Elvis fans are probably thinking along the same lines as
I always wanted another 1974 ELVIS SUMMER FESTIVAL concert to be released and according to your interviews maybe it's in the pipeline.
This would be fantastic, I'TS MIDNIGHT FTD is a amazing concert and captures Elvis trying to shake things up.

If I could make a suggestion maybe a boxset or a Book project all about the 74 SUMMER FESTIVAL this would make a absolutely fascinating FTD release. with 3-4 unreleased concerts and rare photos [wineglass, mermaid, two-piece leather suits] this was one of the best concert years of his life.

Keep the fantastic releases coming because FTD, is for me a complete goldmine and anyone else who is music savvy.

According to Led Zeppelin road manager Richard Cole, Led Zeppelin first saw Elvis in concert during EP's '69 Vegas stand, (though they did not meet him).
Cole also says that Elvis introduced LZ (as one of his favourite bands?) during the '74 Forum show, asking for the spotlight to be put on them.
Of the meeting between the two, Cole says that Elvis 'connected' with John Bonham via there mutual admiration of Peter Sellers, with both of them sharing some of there favourite Sellers' quotes.
Cole also quotes Elvis as saying that he didn't have much time to listen to music, but that his stepbrother had played him 'Stairway To Heaven' and that it was rather good.
As LZ were departing, Elvis offered to "give them a few autographs for your wives and children......."
Another meeting between Elvis and a member of Led Zeppelin (John Paul Jones) occurred in March 1975. Organized through Jerry Schilling, the meeting happened in Bel Air. Apparently Jones left the meeting with a diamond encrusted watch and gold ring, with Elvis hanging onto Jones' Mickey Mouse watch.

That's very interesting, I know for sure that Robert Plant is a Elvis fan after he covered some of his songs ["Party" is part of a 50s medley during Whole Lotta Love on HOW THE WEST WAS WON 3CD] [/I]and attended some of his concerts in the early seventies.

On the Jonathan Ross show [BBC RADIO 2] about two years ago when Robert was a guest, Jonathan asked him who was the best he had ever seen "live in concert", "Elvis" replied Plant without any hesitation,"in about 74, he was smart and funny and I could not believe he died just a few years later".

I believe Zeppelin saw one of the MSG shows too, 1972, the concert where he perfomed Reconsider Baby.
This is all whetting my appetite for the April release LIVE IN L.A BOOK & SOUNDBOARD.I hope it's fantastic. .

Do you not realize how dumb you sound? With every post you make about something you are not interested in (and there are more than enough), you let everyone know that you just love to deprive yourself of some great material. Guess what? No one cares what you want or don't want. Why must you cast a negative shadow on a post such as this? Someone makes a post about how they are looking forward to a certain soundboard show or two, and it is only a matter of time before you let everyone know (once again) how you are not interested.

Go listen to the few CD's you do have and stop wasting everyone's time with your world-weary outlook.

    You're a very sad person.
Won't you sing me away to a summer night, let me hold her in my arms again.

Shut up,Jerry! We already know your opinion about soundboards very well.

Instead of sass,go and find some unreleased outtakes and live recordings from the 50's!

I remember when I joined this board I was assured that all points of view/opinions were welcome even if it wasn't the "usual copmany line".
    I see that has changed.

Soundboards can offer a very rewarding listening experience especially if the sound is good Dixieland Rocks,Desert Storm,Night Fever In Vegas,Southern Nights and many more.

What fans must remember is that were very lucky to have them at all.
A soundboard is a Elvis concert captured in time and for me they are pure Gold.
We are not going to get DSD sound as on the recent Genre releases [Genre Live is sensational] but what we do get is fantastic, well done FTD.

The sound on the FTD CD UNCHAINED MELODY was amazing and personaly I thought it was better than the FTD SPRING TOURS which was recorded specially by RCA.

If the sound on LIVE IN L.A. comes close to UNCHAINED that will be fantastic.

Thanks for the info! There is also a great story about that LA meeting, told by Robert Plant, of how Elvis and him sang a duet on "Love Me"... I'm pretty sure there were no cameras or tape recorders around, a pity...
And, I think they met once more, at some airport in 75 or 76.

WOW! thanks for posting this, do you know is there any photos of Elvis and Led Zeppelin? I didn't knew they saw Elvis in '69 when he was in such good from, neither about the Mickey Mouse watch, Elvis was great! In the BBC sessions Led Zeppelin CD they play "That?s all Right Mama" and "A Mess of Blues" in a medley with "WHole Lotta Love", that was in 1971, so cool! hope a pic of those guys and Elvis together may appear in that FTD Book, I'll buy it just for that.

I've also read Joe Esposito worked for L.Z. around '75 is that true?

My expectations for Live In L.A. are high too
This is the kind of project I always dreamed.
I hope that more of this kind of release can me done, dealing with seasons/tours.
As a fan of the August 1974 shows, Im 100 % for a book/CD of this season, maybe with two soundboards.

I think the last meeting occurred on the tarmac somewhere in April 1977.
In passing, the conversation went like this "Elvis Presley once teased him about not owning his own plane - Elvis Presley asked where Led Zeppelin got the jet, "we rented it from Caesar's Palace" said Plant. "I own mine" replied Elvis Presley." according to http://imdb.com/name/nm0686619/bio

The LIVE IN L.A BOOK & CD is a dream release for me because 74 was one of the most fascinating concert years of the Kings life. Also being a Zeppelin fan helps too, especially as they were in the audience and met Elvis afterwards.

David E.Stanley[Elvis's stepbrother]himself a huge Zeppelin fan said he saw Elvis do the best concert he'd ever seen him perform that night Zeppelin were in the audience.

I hope I'm not getting my hopes to high for this release, and here's hoping for a FTD -ELVIS AUGUST 74 SUMMER FESTIVAL BOX SET some time in the future.

I believe Elvis was one of the first rock stars to have his own aircraft with LED ZEPPELIN following suit afterwards.

    No problem, ROR.

As for Joe working for LZ around '75......not that I am aware of, though he did wear a Led Zep '75 shirt in Pine Bluff, 1976.
