Thread: Sports Illustrated at Graceland, from the Waist Up!!!

Sports Illustrated at Graceland, from the Waist Up!!!

So what's the reason about this so called fans outrage? the odd thing about it is that some of the posts I've read on that subject are so alike to the kind of bad response that Elvis received after singing Hound Dog on the Milton Berle show in '56, did nobody remeber that SEX was a big part of Elvis controversial act during the 50's.

Other fans complain about what the hell does this have to do with Elvis image when in fact thousands of images in motion of tremendous hot girls where used on most of his films not only to make the picture atractive for his male fans? but to assure Elvis image as a Sex Symbol, plus many femeale fans during the early 60's here Elvis fans not really because his musical talent or acting skills but because the same reason many healthy male Elvis fans will go and get this Sport Illsutrated number, and maybe some girls too hehe...

At last some fans may don't know that actually Elvis enjoyed taking photos like this to Cilla and Linda!!! photos by the way that are not porn at all for Christ Sake!!

Yeas I do agree with the fans that think E.P.E. is not doing enough or almost nothing about promoting Elvis as an artist, and that his credibility as a real musician gets totally underestimated or even buried in between the amount of crap that E.P.E. is regulary is delivering as marketing stuff. But it is also true that you do need marketing these days in order to keep a name alive, the question is: what type of promotional stunts will get us to the place we want to be?

My opinion is: in terms of updating Elvis image and to project that image to a new audience, a fresher one than his older fans and a mature one than the ones reached with Lilo & Stich, its a good move, its definetively one good step away from Elvis image related with being fat and donuts, PoP *****s, Cheap Impersonactors and low quality memorablia.

Sport Illustrated its fine magazine, cool it down with the moral speeches, there is anything vulgar here, seems that some fans want to see a girl from the from neck up only.

I honestly do not care... I think some of it was done in very poor taste but when you look at the people who are running EPE what can you expect. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. Always did come first!!! Dovey

Elvis will always be the king!!!!! (Not much is the same at Graceland as it was when he left this world.) It is not longer his home.
    Get Him, get him~~Hot D*** ~~ he's a Squirrel!

No truer words have been spoken, Dovey.

IMO, EPE and the fans have taken over Graceland.
IF Elvis were able to return; there'd be no place for him.

I realized that when I saw "Finding Graceland."
When "Elvis" started to cry .....I cried for all of our loss too.
A sad realization. I'm not so sure I like that.

Graceland hasn't been Elvis' home for a great many years now - it's just a commodity so what does it all matter? Money never mattered to Elvis but it means everything to EPE and they'll get it every way they can. This is no worse than anything else they've done.

I have no problems with it at all, but I really don`t see what it has to do with Elvis. If they had used the Linda picture from the jungle room I would have understood, but I guess Linda don`t agree.

That would be an interesting opinion to hear about all this, I mean Linda's opinion. I think it has to do with Elvis as much as his movie Girls Girls Girls has to do with him, so what does that movie has to do with him? mmm... (not much I guess, but it was fun) Im really not interested on that film neither on the soundtrack (except for Return to Sender). Human being is one thing, image is another etc. those photos are not about Elvis and nobody is pretending they are directly linked to him, its just about image and marketing, its about money as same as most of his 60's pictures, and I rather go for this magazine than for Harum Scarum, although I rather go for Elvis is Back! or his first album, any of those albums and that mag sound like good times anyway

Thanks for your vote and your reply.

Raised on Rock, what I meant was that if they had used a picture like the one of Linda in the jungle room(But she might not wanted that picture to be used) or one from Girls, Girls, girls for that matter, I could easily connect it to Elvis, but the girl in the pics that they actually used have nothing to do with elvis at all. Do you understand what I mean?

But that's the odd thing, you may conect any girl of any Presley movie with Elvis, but the thing is that with a few exceptions Presley movies has nothing to do with Elvis as an artist, needless to say as a human being, yet we inmediately link Girls Girls Girls with Elvis cause that's how the marketing of back then sold Elvis image to us and we did buy it, but as ELvis said one thing is the image and other the human being.

It is obvious that you and many other fans do not link these girls or S.I. magazine for a simple reason, those girls and that magazine has anything to do with Elvis, just as Walt Disney cartoons had anything to do with Elvis before L&S, or JXL and remixes had anything to do with Elvis, or even just like Vegas or Hawaii had anything to do with Elvis before '69 or Blue Hawaii, but that's exactly what they're trying to do with these photos: TO CREATE NEW LINKS, to update Elvis image to a new audience. Some will get it some will not, you obviously don't and you may be right for that.

Of course Elvis is dead, he did what he did, his image is the result of his lifetime and in a way, that cannot be altered, what do can change is the way we, society perceive him, and that has a lot to do with how his work, his history, and his image is delivered by the media today, and that obvioulsy has to do with E.P.E.

Im not a fan of EPE, and I have stated in this thread and in many others that I do not agree in the way those people are managing ELvis image today for one main reason, seems that for them as well as for many fans, music and art is the least important thing about Elvis, and that is somethin I consider a retarded conception. Yet this is not only EPE to blame, this misconception can be tracked back to '62 due to Colonel Parker ideas, but mostly and we have to face that, it was Elvis exagerated tolerance to missleaded management to blame. Elvis had to choose among show business or real artistic development, he choosed or let others choose for him the first. Now we are still having the results of that.

Yet not everything in show business is crap, and it is my opinion that this issue of S.P. would not be crap or at least is better than many other ideas before. Now you may don't like these new move, you may dissagree with these step, well that's totally fine with me, we don't have to agree, as Elvis said, you can't please everybody, some fans were pleased with some of Elvis decitions, others were not.

So my point is if you don't like them or don't mind them that's fine, if you like them and will enjoy them that cool also, but if you start calling names to those girls and make judgements like: vulgar, denigrating... well I think that's out of place, I don't know what's Linda Thompson opinions about all this, but even if she disagre, I don't think she will call names to those girls or call those photos vulgar for one main reason, she was a model and did that kind of job, which I believe its a lovely one by the way.

The only reason to outrage here is the attitude of some fans towards sex.

Well, I`m not calling names to those girls or anything, but I just don`t see what their connections to Elvis are....He didn`t know them and that`s why I don´t see why they should promote him or his music......
To me Elvis music is the main thing and I don`t mind his personal life involved in promoting him, but these girls had nothing to do with Elvis at all.......
I`ll say it again, if they had used the Linda picture, then I could have understood the Elvis connection......But I`m not sure if Linda would`ve liked to have HER picture used.....
I don`t think Linda mind those girls haven their pictures taking in the jungle room, but she might think, for what reason...... they didn`t know Elvis

I had to write again cause I can't understand how can you compare the person's pics who lived in the house or own the house with those one.and it's not the matter of girls, boys,or bikinis or furs..it's using the home for some stupid photo session and such..this is a house and people visit there that's all..what about tv commercials filming at the house, goodies such astoothpastes etc..

    .

Graceland is not just a house anymore, and hasn't been since '82. (And yeah, the family closes it at Xmas for dinner or whatever, but it's not a house).

It is a public attraction and is fit for promotions such as this.

I wonder if some of the women objecting to this would feel the same if it was male models used? If that were the case, I'd be totally fine with it again ... I just wouldn't bother checking out the pictures this time!

It's not going to help or hurt the image. I don't have a problem with the pictures. Why all the fuss? Stop living in the Dark Ages.

Graceland stoped to be a home when Vernon passed away, now Lisa owns the place and for good or bad Graceland is now a public site, cut it out with the atachment, Elvis is dead, I really can't think of Elvis as this ghost cying all over Graceland: what they have done!!! that's childish.

Now once again, if you consider S.I. mag as stupid, that´s fine, you got your right for that, but is not such a big deal as much as to take it to the extreme of making tootpaste TV comercials at Graceland, it has nothing to do with that, S.I. is a well established Mag and neither S.I. needs E.P.E. neither E.P.E. need S.I. its just S.I choosed to take this years pics in diferent famous rock themed places, so, rock themed places? Graceland was an obvious choice, so its no diferent as Neil Young asking permision to use a Graceland picture for one of his albums, unfortunately, they deny it to Neil and they were a bunch of ***%$#¬! for doing that. I think it would have been a mistake to lost this chance once again.

I don?t think this is a big deal. Graceland is not Elvis home because sadly he is dead and I share the view with someone from here that I don?t think Elvis ghost is there crying on every corner of the house. If there is live after death sure we go to another place. It?s a business now since Lisa choose not to live there and keep it as a museum and they need to promote it and try to reach to new people. Personally I find more disgusting the crap they sell.

Not a subscriber to SI (Bikini Edition or otherwise!) but I've been watching this thread and noticed, and reviewed at their own site, courtesy of the last link that this years "theme" was Rock and Roll. I notice they used the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for some of the shots too as well as various music stars, such as beyonc? herself.

In context I would actually take it as a tribute that the, though empty, throne of the King of Rock and Roll was used too.

I'd be, and am, pretty annoyed if, and when, Rock and Roll projects don't include Elvis. Whatever EPE's motives, SI musta thought "We're doing a Rock and Roll theme, we gotta include Elvis" - good on them.
(Ok, that said, I'm going back to look at my Pope Benedict 2007 Calendar!)
