I think the only thing to say here is Elvis always acknowledged his influences and how rock and roll was a mix of R&B, Gospel and country.
How did he steal it? Breaking and entering? Theft by deception? Grand Theft audio?
If you'd like to get a real high brow, intellectual response to this kind of crap read "Race,Rock and roll and Elvis" by Michael Bertrand a professor at the traditionally black college Tennessee State.
He blows the claim away with thought out cultural arguments.
(Not that the folks on this board need it...but its interesting anyway.)

Michael Bertand emailed me a few years ago to let me know about the publication of his book. I think he was at Ol' Miss in Oxford then.
I still have not obtained a copy.![]()
It never arrived in Ireland, or at least I have not seen it anywhere. Not that I need to be convinced. The whole subject of Elvis stealing black music is nonsense.
They seem to be consistently ridiculous with these kind of articles. I've been hearing this bunk for 30 years .
Maurice,
I got mine on Amazon...I think used. Either way it wasn't expensive.

?A lot of people have accused Elvis of stealing the black man?s music, when in fact, almost every black solo entertainer copied his stage mannerisms from Elvis.? -Jackie Wilson
