regarding the author of the articles statment that it was "Famously Stolen" by Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis Presley - Thats just stupid. He just sang the songs, other then a couple of occasions where the Colonel made a business deal to add his name to the writer credits ,He never claimed to write them. Which IMO would be the only way he could have "stolen them". I don't think I can even get into this topic without crossing a line I don't care to cross here. So I think I'll just close the way I opened, Thats just stupid.

Well, of course Elvis didn't steal anyones music. Elvis grew up in the black communities . They loved each other & played music together; no big deal.
This was brought up many years ago & proven a bunch of BS.

That claim of stolen music or style has always irked me. Any musician learns and is influenced by what he sees and hears. Elvis was not blues, nor country, gospel, or pop-but he got something from them all and slowly blended it. Did Ray Charles steal country music when he said he liked Hank Williams songs and did a couple country albums in the 50s? Elvis sang what he liked be it blues, country, pop and added his own touch. Little Richard had his first big hit in 55, so did Chuck Berry and Bo Diddley. Elvis was well on his way to the style that was ELVIS by then. But to say he stole is untrue.

Well if Ray Charles say ELvis stole black music to make some bucks, didn´t Ray did the same the other way with all the country stuff he recorded?

Love Chuck Berry, but lisen, Elvis recorded THat's All RIght at 19, a black song in white style, well more or less, I´ll just say, a blues song in an unheard totally new style, and he did the same the other way for the B side, but anyway, that was 1954. A year latter a guy on his latte 20's, a guy that have allready tried to record so many times before but was rejected in all his attempts for lackin a distintic style, went to Chess records and did a White song in R&B style, Maybellene came out in '55. Same with Bo, Jerry Lee, old Carl, Buddy Holly, they all came after ELvis, and that´s a fact, the only one that can claim to be around before Elvis was Little Richard, but he was doing R&B and Boogie Woogie, he did rock and roll after '55. Sooooo?

To me Elvis sounds so Elvis all the time, from where could he have ripped that? just from Elvis himself.

Some folks might not like this post. However, ask yourself this question:

If a black artist had taken the tunes that EP did in those early days, and made it as big as EP did, would ANYBODY be saying that black artist "stole" them?

    Of course not.

So, why do I hear this oft-repeated trash about EP "stealing music"? Because he was white.

Some black folks, and performers (e.g., Little Richard), just have always hated the plain fact that a white man could so sing the blues (originally a black musical form). It's just racism.

As for Jerry Lee, and other white artists of those times, it's just bitterness: E blew everybody away and just didn't leave any room for lesser talents.

All complainers: Read'em and weep - it ain't nothing but racism and bitterness.
