    Getting Things Done for Elvis.

Some of us want to help get Elvis the respect he deserves. The only way is to use our own real names, knowing we will be sniped at by all those content to sit on the side-lines.

I purposely targeted Tupelo back in 1997 after seeing how little had been done to foster Elvis tourism to the City.

Mayor GlennMcCullough replied to my telephone call and a ball was set rolling which has not stopped yet.

OK I have become accustomed to the Me Me Me accusations by some of our less intelligent members here and elsewhere. I can live with that! That's the price we pay

Newer members may not understand all the hostility my hard work generates..............does anyone?

http://irelandtoo.blogspot.com tells a little of my ten year old campaign which has generated hundreds of newspaper articles and a lot of TV Radio coverage about Elvis. Yes, ELVIS!

    Hi Maurice,

    I'm Jess.

It is great to see someone who is respectful of Elvis' memory. I find the statue quite touching.

Hello Jess, thank you for your interest.

The beauty of being out in the open is people in the USA, UK, and Ireland etc often contact us by email and telephone. Sometimes by snailmail too.

Dr Vernon Chadwick of the "International Conference on Elvis Presley" drove us from Oxford MS to Tupelo in 1999. I noticed there was no Elvis statue, but did not act on that knowledge till early Jan 2001.

My letter reached the Mayor on Elvis's birthday, and the statue was unveiled on Elvis's birthday the following year!
I was asked by the Mayor of Tupelo to give the signal for the water to be turned on for "The Fountain of Life" close to Elvis's birthplace seen here.

Maybe it would suprise you to know Mr Colgan but I am in fact a very intelligent person who can see right through people like you!!!!

My job entails me meeting lots of people but I have yet to come across as anyone as crass as you. If you had Elvis's interests at heart really you would just get on with what you do and not tell anyone about it. Instead you phone here there and everywhere hoping for self-gratification, but then again maybe you are after another free holiday on the run up to the 30th Anniversary

Yes the amazing improvements to the birthplace and the surrounding park are most welcome. Increasing numbers of Elvis fans are now arriving by the coach load.

Thanks to the really intelligent Mayors in recent years the work continues. I have been in contact with three of them and exchange email with the present one now. They appreciate an imaginative Elvis fan..........even if I say so myself
http://irelandtoo.blogspot.com is fairly informative and a very modest blog too

Back in early January 1997 because it would be the important 20th Anniversary I first contacted the Irish newspapers about doing an Elvis story.

They were not Interested.! After all WHO was I?

Undaunted, I contacted our national radio RTE1 with excellent results they did an Elvis Special on the Pat Kenny show on Elvis's birthday

Months later, in May the Irish newspapers ran Elvis stories which lead to more Radio coverage. Tens of thousands of Euros worth of publicity for Elvis was generated by my efforts. At a cost of thousands of Euros (Telephone bills!) and thousands of hours of dedication.

The facts speak for themselves. Your cheap comments carry no weight at all. Even moderator Albert knows how hard I work to get publicity for Elvis's beautiful music. That's why Shreveport Tourism called me by telephone for help, That's why the City of Tupelo appreciates all our hard work.

I like to share the great Elvis stories we have generated hoping young fans will learn by example and begin to write and call their local media.

I understand my outspoken style may cause a little resentment but the vast majority of Emails we receive encourage us to continue.

The following is a sample of the media we have reached with good results, many of the presenters and journalists came back every year since 1997 for more Elvis info. More than 400 articles have been printed. That's quite a lot of cash in publicity terms.

Because of Threads like this one we have been contacted by a lot of media people..you never know who is visiting at any given time. That's why I repeat some of the subjects now and again.

The Media has no interest in our lives....their first questions are always about Elvis Presley. That doesn't do my ego much good.

Diamond, Is that your name? If my posts upset you so much the intelligent thing would be to ignore them. Right?

    Thank you Elvislady and Jess,

Getting Elvis Presley's beautiful and versatile voice heard is the most important aspect of our work.

Good Publicity is crucial. Any story that generates such should be used time and again, if at all possible.

Sometimes for just an ordinary Elvis fan the unexpected rewards are priceless:

    Mostly for newcomers.

    Thanks poormansgold and Cheif77.

    It's heartening to be appreciated.

Here "The Times" online uses an Elvis related message I posted about it's Muhammad Ali coverage.
    http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article...547613,00.html

An LA Times reporter emailed me this afternoon in reply to a comment I made about the movie featuring a young girl Elvis fan.

That's how easy it is to play a little part in working for Elvis.
