Trev,
Yes, it is well-known within the Memphis Mafia that Joe was a spy for Colonel Parker in regards to Elvis by reporting Elvis's every single move to the Colonel and Elvis knew what Joe was doin' and so did most of the other Memphis Mafia members. Elvis fired Joe because of this at one point...but, unfortunately, he took him back. According to more than a few of the Memphis Mafia, Joe was (and still is) "power-hungry" and always wanted to get the same 'perks' as Elvis did and most of them never have liked him becauase he always seemed to put himself above everyone else in the organization. If Joe is/was so well liked by other Memphis Mafia members, why did he not participate in the "All The King's Men" documentary back in the mid-1990s?? I can guarantee you that it's because most of them (except for Jerry Schilling and George Klein) don't care for him and his attitude.....and I laugh every time I read the title of his DVD, "Elvis: His Best Friend Remembers"....if Elvis ever had a best friend, it was Billy Smith and not Joe Esposito....Joe always wants to make himself appear to be the #1 buddy to Elvis...and that simply was not true...a 'friend' doesn't snitch on you or spy on you behind your back, IMO....![]()
