EPE Unveils new DVD set "Elvis - The Ultimate Film Collection"
By Carlene Coney-Nov2-2006
The following is an edited transcript of an interview I had with, Todd Morgan, Director of Media & Creative Development, Elvis Presley Enterprises, Inc. This article talks about the new release of the DVD set, ?Elvis-The Ultimate Film Collection?.
1) I need to know if the DVD set ?Elvis-The Ultimate Film Collection is legitimate (obviously want to tell people if it?s certified by EPE!)
(Todd)It's EPE's own project. The Elvis MGM movies that are in the box are licensed to us by their owner, Warner Brothers. There is also Sony BMG audio content and EPE video content and EPE archival materials content. Details are on this special site: http://dvd.elvis.com/index.php?ref=h...ry.asp?id=1119
It will be featured on QVC on October 30th between 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM Eastern. An infomercial we are having produced will debut in January and be seen nationally. Eventually, the infomercial should be seen internationally.
2) What makes these chosen DVD?s special- because many if not all of the movies are to rent or buy (or heaven forbid people do it-tape them on the TV. So, Todd what makes this particular package unique to fans and collectors, that it?s not just some rehashed materials - that will make it something the Elvis fans and collectors should want to purchase it? How did this package come together?
(Todd)? The project was born out of discussions among the management of EPE and our parent company CKX in exploring possibilities for working with one or more of the movie companies to collaborate on a special new release of some kind. It evolved from there.
All the MGM movie titles in our box are currently available individually from Warner Home Entertainment and are in wide release. The '68 Special material from EPE on the disc called "Black Leather" is a special edit as a taste of the show for the newer fan who does not have our '68 Special deluxe edition box set or single-disc special edition. What makes the Elvis ? The Ultimate Film Collection box set special is all the archival material ? liners with film info and trivia, copies of EPE archival documents related to the films, the photos, the mini movie posters, the copy of Elvis's Jailhouse Rock script, etc. For many Elvis fans who might already have all the movies and '68 material, the archival content and special packaging are worth the price of the set. And new fans, it's a great way to begin learning about Elvis and his movies and get their Elvis DVD library started. It's also a really great gift item. (There is also a limited edition mouse pad until supplies run out)
The price is comparable to one's buying all the MGM movies the box contains, yet one gets all that extra audio, video and archival material and the special packaging. Some people have observed that all that is worth the price of the box and, cool, you get the MGM movie discs, too. One of our goals was to make the box set worth the price even if the MGM movies weren't included.
( The price is 119.00 plus S&H, which I found out can be split into 4 payments, the first payment comes out to about 44.00,then 29.95 for three more payments)
3) Will there be anything special planned for Jan 8th Elvis? birthday?
(Todd)
Birthday 2007 information is here:

Birthday 2007 will be considered the official "kick-off" of the 30th Anniversary year.
4) What about any special events to observe the 30th anniversary of his passing on August 16-07?
(Todd)
Currently available Elvis Week 2007 information is here: http://www.elvis.com/graceland/calendar/elvis_week.asp .
We will be updating it by the first or second week of November as we confirm some additional EPE events we're planning. Also, events presented by other organizations will be added to the official calendar as we receive event forms from those organizations beginning probably in late November.
There will be press releases about new Elvis Week developments, the 30th Anniversary year as a whole, and more starting in November. All will be posted in News on Elvis.com. Any new postings of releases are noted with links in our e-newsletters. The sign-up page for this free e-newsletter service is here: http://www.elvis.com/newsletters/
The year 2007 also will mark the 25th anniversary of the opening of Graceland for tours and the 50th anniversary of Elvis's purchase of Graceland. Plans for our commemorations for the Graceland Silver and Gold Anniversary are evolving.
5) I know you have a new advertising campaign, Elvis Is- how?s that going, and what can you tell me about the plans for it and the purpose?
(Todd)
It's now found in News Archive here: http://www.elvis.com/news/full_story.asp?id=1011 .
6) Are there any plans for ?Elvis, The Concert, playing outside the US, to play back in the states?
(Todd)
?After the current tour ends, the show will be off the road indefinitely. No additional tours are in the works or are anticipated at this time. But, that could change. Any new information about the status of the show is always immediately posted in News, noted in our e-newsletters and indicated on the tour schedule page of the concert mini-site www.elvisconcertour.com ?.
Our focus for live shows at present is mainly on our deal with Cirque du Soleil. Press releases about that are now in News Archive:
