Update News - Jumpsuit Names

I am in the process of updating the names of Jumpsuits....... Why you may ask! Recently Leroy met up with the one and only Gene Doucette the gentleman responsible for designing Elvis' Jumpsuits from late 1971 until 1977 so who better to know the names of the Jumpsuits he created than the man himself.

Some of the new names will be a real eye opener and perhaps shock you :supriced: others will makes sense when you look at the jumpsuit and find that the Fan Given Name bares no relation whatsoever to what the designer intended and has a more deeper relationship to the style of the design and cultural histories.

On speaking to Gene Doucette last year it may or not be common Knowledge but the story goes that the Pheonix suit was originally called the Jungle suit, the design was meant to be two Zebra heads meeting in the middle and with the stripey belt the same as zebra skin,
Elvis walked into Genes shop when he was making it and was looking at the design upside down and said "what a funny looking bird " well not willing to offend the king ,(sounds a bit like the old fable the kings altogether). they came up with the phoenix by adding the feet and beak,

take a look at the suit upside down and you will see.

this has probably already been talked about , let me know if its the first time its been heard.

By now that story is widespread. The "Jungle Suit" was just another theme that Gene wanted to design for a future suit. The "Zebra Suit" (which became the "Phoenix") was to be one of the first with another animal than the the common bird designs.
By the way, Elvis reaction on "the bird's funny feet" was after seeing the sketch that was send to him. He never walked in Gene's store simply because he never knew about Gene's existence. Everything went through Bill Belew.

Yes, that's the Green Cisco Kid !!!!

hi the suit is called - cisco kids where the one u show has a green top their is also a blue top and a red top also a white version with a black top

Ken, I am convinced your intentions are good. But the "Elvis Jumpsuits All Access Book" is full of flaws. Especially when it's about jumpsuit names and dates.

Can anybody help me with this..
I have heard that there was ONE jumpsuit that elvis NEVER wore.

Thanks for that list of names Matt.

Makes more sense learning the correct names of the suties given to them by the designer of the actual suite rather than just going by the names fans had given them through the years.(y)
