Alice Cooper Put A Gun To Elvis' Head...
I heard him tell this story when I was in New York about 10 years ago and finally it's repeated here. Not sure why Marty says it's rubbish. We now know that Alice Cooper visited Elvis in his suite at least once because Liza Minelli (sp?) confirmed it last week.
I hope it's true. One of the many crazy stories I love about Elvis.
From http://www.elvisinfonet.com/
Alice Cooper: 'Elvis Asked Me To Put A Gun To His Head': Another media beat-up to still cash-in on the popularity of Elvis 33 years after his death. Alice Cooper has revealed that upon meeting Elvis Presley for the first time, The King handed him a pistol and told him to put the gun to his (Elvis's) head. Speaking to London's Daily Mirror, Cooper said the incident occurred in 1971, in Elvis's penthouse suite in a Las Vegas hotel.
"Elvis took me into the kitchen, opened a drawer, and pulled out a loaded pistol, telling me to put it to his head", Cooper said. "I recognized it straight away - a snub .32. I didn't know what to do. I had this gun in my hand and was expecting one of his security people to come in any second, see me holding a weapon and shoot me dead."
Cooper continued: "A little voice in my left ear was telling me, 'Go on, this is history, kill him, you'll always be the guy who killed Elvis'. In my other ear was another voice saying, 'You can't kill him, it's Elvis Presley – wound him instead, you'll only get a few years!' A fraction of a second later Elvis did a flying kick on the gun, and sent it flying, before tripping me and pinning me to the ground by my neck, announcing, 'That's how you stop a man with a gun'."
EIN notes that this is not the first time Alice Cooper has told this story. Marty Lacker has denounced this story as a Crock Of Sh*t!

Re: Alice Cooper Put A Gun To Elvis' Head...
I just get a little tired when 'celebs' roll out stories of Elvis to get in the papers. Although it does please me in one respect - the fact that mentioning the name Elvis Presley still gets in the papers nearly 34 years after he has gone. What an impact the man had.
Re: Alice Cooper Put A Gun To Elvis' Head...
Though plausible I find it unlikely that this incident really happened. It certainly sounds like something crazy Elvis would do but too many people have said things that have turned out not to be true that it does make one skeptical. It is amazing how he seems to be the only entertainer that people USE to refresh their names to the public.
Re: Alice Cooper Put A Gun To Elvis' Head...
excellent comments ladies............just shows how important he still is................
Re: Alice Cooper Put A Gun To Elvis' Head...
I am curious since Elvis was rarely alone in a room with anyone-what MM or security people can attest to this story and its validity?
What Hotel reservation list can show Cooper was in the Hilton, or attended Elvis's show?
If this happened someone other than Cooper could tell the story (or would have told the story in book form by now)......Elvis surely would have told of having Cooper in his suite to Priscilla, the Stanleys (probably Cooper fans back then) Red, Charlie, Sonny, the TCB band etc......this is a "grain of salt story"
But I try "never" to say never so the doors is open to back this story up if any of the insiders wants to.....Marty has said NO how about Red, Sonny, Priscilla, etc coming forward with a yes or no.

Great point KMP! Agree, is not that I don't believe it at all, but I'm not 100% buying. There is Jerry and the Stanleys confirming the meeting between Elvis and Eric Clapton. There is Joe, Jerry and The Stanleys confirming the three meetings Elvis had with members of Led Zeppelin, and so on... I've have never ever read about Elvis meeting Alice Cooper, let alone this story from anybody IN ELVIS CAMP.
Its a bit like Ali's story about taking Elvis on stage at some beer joint in the middle of nowhere, cool story, but how's that nobody at Elvis camp knows about it?
Anyway, Mr. Tom Jones is still the King of weird and hard to believe Elvis anecdotes, even if all the Memphis Mafia can confirm they both met tons of times! lol.

As trelane noted, Liza Minneli has also told the story of going to the suite with Alice Cooper. She also mentions Linda Lovelace, so the stories match. It seems the visit to the suite did happen. Whether the gun/karate display did is another matter. Maybe.
Lacker's point about the story being a crock was particularly in reference to the idea that the gun would be loaded. He was less dismissive of the rest. Then again, why is Lacker's word always considered so authorative on every detail? The guy didn't even work for Elvis in the 70s, so was around far less than previously.

I heard about this story through another group that my wife is a part of. With further investigation, Sandi Pichon asked Sonny West about this incident and he said that it is most definately fictional. Although it sounds like a great story, it never happened.

Its not just Lacker-not one MM or insider has ever mentioned Elvis meeting Minnelli or Cooper-doesn't that seem strange??? Would make a great tidbit to help sell books, but this has "never" been mentioned by anyone in any Elvis book that I can recall.
So I have to ask myself how did something this outrageous, with this many "A-Stars" in attendance happen...without some mention by someone in the Elvis circle of life??
How did it happen without a mention in the press-right after it happened? Anything is possible-but things sometimes just do not add up because we know how Elvis lived his life and how he always had someone around in security family etc.......
Re: Alice Cooper Put A Gun To Elvis' Head...
This story really doesn't seem true to me. It's a good story though!
Re: Alice Cooper Put A Gun To Elvis' Head...
In this weeks Entertainment Weekly this story is listed in Dan Snickersons HIT LIST that Cooper claims Elvis told him to point a loaded gun to Elvis's head and the punch line is ...Upon reading the story Nicholas cage muttered, "Okay okay, get to the crazy part":P
