What new albums would you like to see released by SONY/RCA
If you could request a special concept album from Sony/RCA, what would it be? It can't be a reissue or remastered album already available. It must be a new album of original songs. It can be more than one project. Be creative and specific. What would your track listing be? I'm curious to see your creative minds go to work. :D
Re: What new albums would you like to see released by SONY/RCA
Well, I would like to see the Elvis Legacy double re-releases to keep going. The "From Elvis in Memphis/Back in Memphis", "On Stage/In Person", "Elvis is Back/Something For Everybody" hava all been great delivers, and all have been very welcome both by crtitics and the fans, and its important to keep Elvis original catalogue available and in decent shape.
With those releases in mind, my next in line would be later on during the fall this year, the two '56 albums: "Elvis Presley/Elvis" with all the '56 singles as bonus songs. (I'm pretty sure this iactually will be the next move)
Also for 2011, "Elvis Country/He Touched Me" could be a good pairing, presenting Elvis '71 as his comback to roots music, to the music in which he was raised. Bonus for Elvis Country could be the "Rags To Riches/Where did They Go Lord" single, "Got My Mojo Workin'", "Cindy Cindy" and "Its no Big Thing But Its Growing" from the lousy album Love Letters, and the complete "I Was Born About Ten Thousand Years Ago". Bonus for "He Touch Me" could be "Only Believe", "Life", "Put Your Hand in The Hand", "Miracles of The Rosary" the studio outtake of "The Lord's Prayer", and maybe the alternate version of "Amazing Grace" (the one with the wild dobro sound on it)
Then in 2012, the most expected "As recorded at the MSG" original album has to make its comback to the catalogue, backed with the "An Afternoon in the Garden" concert as CD two. Bonus track could be some of the '72 singles as "Burning Love", "I'ts a Matter of Time" "Always on My Mind", "Separate Ways", "We Ca Make The Morning", "Until Its Time for You To Go". Plus concert adds, and the lost original album radio promo. And if they want to get pretty, a bonus DVD with the MSG conference and a mini documental of those gigs using remastered footage.
Re: What new albums would you like to see released by SONY/RCA
I'm still waiting for an album where Elvis songs get a big band / orchestra treatment. One album could have ballads with an orchestra (strings, etc), while another album would be more swinging with a big band (horns, trompets, etc.)
Re: What new albums would you like to see released by SONY/RCA
Legacy Edition of 'PROMISED LAND'
Re: What new albums would you like to see released by SONY/RCA
'Elvis Duets' with major establised recording stars. This is due out in 2012. If done properly should be a great album. Sony have already promised that there will be no 'X Factor' or 'American Idol' contestants on the album.

The Best Of Elvis at Stax.
Just one CD minus the sub-standard tracks. The way that material should have been released originally. It would be a killer album, probably his best one of the 70's.
Re: What new albums would you like to see released by SONY/RCA
I think i'd like an album of first versions, when he first sang a song live. Jordan's Elvis world has some of these up. I really like his first live version of Steamroller Blues.
Re: What new albums would you like to see released by SONY/RCA
Elvis Presley's Memphis
A 3 Cd Box Set with the best of his recordings at the legendary sites of his home city.
With CD1 leaning toward Rock/R&B/Blue eyed Soul and CD2 leaning towards C&W/Honky Tonk/ Countrish "Adult contemporary". Cd 3 Would be about the music making: alternate takes and rarities (Let studio talking to feel in the studio, don't edit Elvis swearing lol)
Using the new Masters from "The complete E.P. masters", and the direct FTD sources for the alternates. Get Guralnik to write the linner notes about Elvis and the city of Memphi, and this box set is a winner. Plus the typical CD of "Best from the box set".

Read the original text. NO NEW MUSIC ADDED. NO DUETS. ONLY ORIGINAL RECORDINGS.
Here's one of my dream concept album projects that I came up with featuring tracks from the Nashville sessions from June 1970.

7.Cindy, Cindy
8.Just Pretend

All tracks would be digitally remixed (like with the Promised Land album in 1999) using the first generation master recordings for superior optimum sound quality.

I think to use the remastering job done for "The Complete Elvis Presley Masters Box Set" would be the best choice for your project.
Re: What new albums would you like to see released by SONY/RCA
Everybody keeps talking about these supposed remasters but I have yet to hear them. I am not about to pay a fortune for the overpriced box set. Now if they will use them for new releases or even reissues then that's fine and then we'll all have them individually without going broke in the process.

Those same remasters are the ones they are using for all new Elvis product on the Legacy label: "From Elvis in Memphis/Back in Memphis", "On Stage/In Person", the new "Elvis is Back/Something for Everybody", and "Elvis 75".
Re: What new albums would you like to see released by SONY/RCA
I wasn't all that impressed with the remastered From Elvis In Memphis album on the Legacy Edition release. To me, it still sounded flat as before.

The original American Recordings do sound flat. The only way to solve that is to mess with them a step further, like in the '87 The Memphis Record, or the remix they did for Suspicious Minds for the Elv1s #30 No1hits, only to controversial results. The ideal today in remastering, particualry concerning Elvis as Ernst has stated, is to respect the original balance/mix. Aloha From Hawaii will always sucks for that matter, even if its out of this new remasters for "The Complete Elvis Masters Box Set" as the original mix is crap. When they messed with the original tapes, forgeting all about the original mix, and did the new mix for the 5.1 deluxe DVD set in 2003, then WOW!
Anyway this lattest remasters where not done to impress anybody with their sound, there is a limit to that and it has been reached unless you go 5.1. SACD or do a new mix forgeting the original one. The only aim with this last remastering job, is to give a uniform treatment to ALL Elvis masters as before that, there where, the 80's remasters, the early 90's remasters, the late 90's resmasters etc, all with a diffrent sound which was problematic. That's all.

Sony unfortunately-does not always seem to live up to the expectations they themselves project.
So we'll see how this actually plays out-I would personally love to see Clapton, McCartney, Tom Jones, featured on any Duets album.
Re: What new albums would you like to see released by SONY/RCA
I want to hear anything that is hidden bye EPE. Just not the same songs like the ones included in the series Elvis #1 hits and later compilations CDs. ¬¬
Re: What new albums would you like to see released by SONY/RCA
I'm sure if EPE had anything of consequence-studio quality recordings, they would sell them to Sony. All studio quality recordings are in Sonys hands they own them and all sessions, outtakes, etc. If EPE has anything-I would guess its on the line of what we have seen in the past such as-The Home Recordings cd. They could maybe have some jams, or Elvis around the piano, but its hard to say.
Vernon and the Col were packrats, and there may be some things still in storage waiting to be found-but I would not hold my breath.
To me this is the saddest part of his legacy-nothing new in the vaults of real consequence.
Re: What new albums would you like to see released by SONY/RCA
I will be totally shocked if Sony doesn't release some kind of mainstream CD to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the MSG show next year!! Of course, the most likely release will be a double CD set containing both the original MSG show as well as the AFTERNOON IN THE GARDEN CD. :hmm:
Naturally, a release celebrating the 40th anniversary of ELVIS ON TOUR would also be nice to see released through the main Sony label, but I suspect this is something that (if it happens) FTD will focus on if/when it happens.
I have to agree with Raised on Rock that a "Legacy Edition" of the ELVIS PRESLEY and ELVIS albums is a given. After that, I really don't know what other albums Sony would consider giving the "Legacy Edition" treatment to. I highly doubt they will give the special treatment to any of Elvis' later 70's albums...not on the main label, anyway. Perhaps a "Legacy Edition" treatment of Elvis' gospel albums is a possibility, as Raised on Rock also eluded to, might be a potential idea.
It will be interesting to see what albums receive the "Legacy Edition" treatment, that's for sure. ;)
TCB!
Mike
Re: What new albums would you like to see released by SONY/RCA
I agree with mike, you have statements, that there are strong RCA compilations, but it is 3 cd that came legacy edition, and I find this genial, as you said the msg double cd, this would be a good idea, and I would see too, aloha from hawaii, with the bonus track of the DVD, another idea as the famous Elvis in concert, Omaha and Rapid City 77, but can be a dream.
