Article on Leiber/Stoller and Elvis
"Mental Floss" magazine has a nice article on Leiber and Stoller in which their history in music, and with Elvis, is discussed. Interesting!
The article says they thought little of him in the start-but after meeting him and discovering he was much more than, a white guy trying to cash in on black music.
They also discuss the Parker warning to them about trying to influence Elvis and their eventual distancing from Elvis.
Re: Article on Leiber/Stoller and Elvis
If it's the article I'm thinking about, they mention that Elvis knew every song that L&S could name, plus many more, which completely caught them off guard!

Yes they were greatly impressed with his knowledge of R&B and music in general- they also saw he was much more than they thought he was from hearing "Hound Dog"

Can you post or link to the article?

I can post a link to the Mental Floss magazine website-but the article is not posted on the site. The current issue has the article in it-with a picture of Albert Einstein on the cover.
