I heard he left due to his declining health.
Jerry left after the Las Vegas engagement, so last show - 23rd February 1973 Closing Show. He was replaced by Emory Gordy, who is briefly seen in Elvis On Tour (he played bass during the March 1972 recording sessions / rehearsals). Emory was subsequently replaced by Duke Bardwell for the Las Vegas Jan-Feb 1974 season, and stayed on until 1 April 1975 Closing Show in Las Vegas.
Apparently, by that time, Elvis knew Jerry was available, so he was asked back on the band wagon for the April-May 1975 tour and stayed on til the very end.
The reasons why he left, are only known to him, but I remember reading somewhere that the reasons were either 'addiction' problems or maritial problems. If I'm not mistaken he went to Canada during the 'break' from Elvis' touring. Correct me if I'm wrong!
He did not leave right after Aloha. He left after the February engagement in Las Vegas due to both addiction/marital problems (which resulted in a divorce) and came back on tour with Elvis towards the end of April of 1975.
First of All, Emory Gordy cannot directly be seen in Elvis On Tour but he was, in fact, there for the March recording sessions.
Second: The reason Jerry left is due to addiction and problems in his marriage at the time (which, as I mentioned, resulted in a divorce).
By the time he came back in 1975 he was very surprised at how everything had 'slowed down' and changed music-wise. The fire and energy that was in Elvis's music had dimmed considerably and was, in reality, no longer there.
stop it with the dramatics:blink:..thats ur opinion..nothing slowed down by 75....actually some of elvis best concerts ever and songs recorded . came in that year summer of 75(y) http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e1...ley-gen101.gifhttp://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1..._elvis-071.gif
Thanks guys for the replies.
Tony Trout, I am not 100 percent positive, but pretty sure on the EOT outtakes you can clearly see Emory Gordy playing bass, on the Burning Love takes especially.
Not 100 percent sure on that but think so, will check those out today been meaning to watch some EOT l8ley anyway !

You're right - I think I saw him in one of the 'On Tour' 'Out-takes' dvds.
Thanks for the correction
(y)as for energy..those 71 concerts were the ultimate best in my books anyways:lol: http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e1...ley-gen101.gifhttp://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1..._elvis-071.gif
