the way of the sumo pianist
Hey everybody,
You probably didn't know I also play and compose instrumental music, ranging from steel-string guitar to classical nylon string, organ or piano.
A few months ago I had recorded the following short piece of music which should be easy to understand for anybody.
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k46ykcJHws4"]YouTube - Bartok way of the sumo[/ame]
The piece was created by Bartok, but tempo and articulation are unlike anything the world has experienced so far. Positioned like a sumo-wrestler before a match, this somewhat awkward method does enable extra precise and unexpected articulation and phrasing. The ending of this piece was improvized on the spot!
To be more accurate: I was actually seated like this guy, obviously with my hands touching the piano keys..

It allows an interesting central point of gravity!

Dearest Fa,
I really like this, honey :hug: (y)
Re: the way of the sumo pianist
i hope you haven't eaten that much beans and onions BEFORE you got in that position ;)
And I really wonder about the piano's manual when you try to play it in that position.

Re: the way of the sumo pianist
I`m listening to the music again...and looking at the sumo wrestler...thing is my brain won`t put the two together in any form!...I`ve got that very same expression I had when I first saw a Rubik`s cube! Nice piece of music though. I`ll throw some stars your way next time I`m on the tube.(y)(y)(y)(y)
and a little too much to drink I'm afraid!

Thank you! It's hard to tell you how grateful I am.. I certainly hope Mrs. Fawlty appreciates how lucky she is! (y)
I am probably notorious for connecting things seemingly unrelated to each other - to make a long story short, "sumo" is a technique in this case and Bartok the composer of this piece. For some reason his music is suitable for it. :lol:
