I have Elvis on my Ipod, but I do love my vinyls. In the car, cleaning house and stuff like that I go with the Ipod.
But when I am by myself in the living room and just want to enjoy Elvis, I put the old records on the record player. There's nothing like it to me.
And I can still skip a song, if I want to, I just have to get up and move the pick-up.:P

Hi this is my first post on T.C.B WORLD:D

I loved collecting vinyl , there was something great about buying an LP that for me i dont get the same today when buying CDs
dont get me wrong i only get cds now, only get the odd bit of vinyl here and there

Welcome to TCB Davie, I hear what your saying, vinyl has a therapeutic value in the process of playing it, you seem somehow more involved.

I have the Vinyl of many of them but I never play them anymore. I love them, they'll be with me until I'm gone, but its just not convenient anymore. I listen to almost everything on an IPOD now. I do have a thing about needing to actually own the CD that I load on though, I don't like buying downloaded music.

The IPOD is just more convenient, I can carry a whole collection with me in my pocket.

Sounds like me, I just don't see anything tangible about a download plus you loose the quality, and if you loose the download you in deep do do :lol:

The thing with me is that I seem to always end up years behind no matter what the subject is..not just listening to music on an iPod!!!!...... good example- I`ve still got a pony-tail!!!!:D:D:D

I agree Stud. Although i like the progress to C.D.s ect, I do miss the "old school" things..Such as Vynyl. 8-tracks(y)

ipod for me. I have 4140 Elvis recordings on my ipod and i love playing it
on shuffle !

I still have all my vinyls and I still play them from time to time... they sound a little scratchy, but I love them !!! (y)(y)(y) But mostly, I listen to CD's.

I still like my vinyl but I can't live without my MP3 player either!

the vinyls are beautiful, with the lovely covers and artwork. Havent progressed to ipod yet, listen mainly to cds.

i usually use my ipod to listen to my Elvis music because i have my albums on there, so its pretty convient when i go running or on trips=) and at night when the wife and i go to bed i turn on the cd player and we fall asleep to thats the way it is(its my wifes fav Elvis cd)(y)(y)

I remember back in the day you bought Vinyl records, the experience went a little something like this:-

5. you placed the disk onto your player and set the correct speed 33RPM. Before you put the needle to the record you got your dust cleaner, applied it gently to the vinyl giving it the once over, just to make sure the needle wouldn't jump unexpectedly.

6. you could here the needle drag across the plastic briefly before the music played, I used to lay on my bed and listen to the whole side before carefully turning over the LP and playing the other side.

That's how I got to hear and learn Elvis songs, NO I didn't like every song, but I listened to a whole side, took the rough with the smooth and some of those songs I didn't like grew on me (some didn't).

I'm not against ipods or MP3 Players per se, but believe that there is a disadvantage to being able to skip to the next track in a heartbeat if you don't like the intro. I have an Ipod and love it to bits I have 170 Elvis Albums on it which can be anywhere in the world with me which is a fantastic achievement.

I miss the rituals of the vinyl age, it seems like everything is done on-line these days, you can buy one track and ignore the rest, you are sat at home looking at a computer screen without interacting with human beings. I used to save my money and look forward to the journey going to town, going to a record shop that only specialised in records, leafing through the albums talking to other customers etc.

I sometimes wonder if concept albums like 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band' by The Beatles would have been the success it was back in 1967 in a modern era, 'Sgt Peppersl' told a story and each song could be considered an Important piece of the puzzle?

The way you desribed the whole process brought back so many memories, my friend. Call me sentimental but I think I prefer the Vinyl experience without denying to use cd's or mp3s or anything of what the technology has to offer.

IMO, the thought of just collecting MP3 files takes the fun and joy away from collecting the music. Even with CD's, come with the artwork and booklets, something to look at, sitting on the shelf. It would feel very useless just to have it all on files to meatleast, and not have something you can hold in your hands.

I agree. I still like to have the tangible copies that I can hold in my hands
and look at.:D:D:D
