Re: What happened that day?
IIRC he said...........'see you girls backstage'........or words to that effect. They bombarded him, and surrounded him in the (toilets??), ripping most of his clothes off.
Re: What happened that day?
Thanks! I sure hope someone else can tell me more.

I have seen some photos of that day. The photo I saw was afterwards, with Elvis sitting down, with his clothes torn, especially his pants, they looked shredded from the knees down.
Re: What happened that day?
The correct date was May 13th 1955 in Jacksonville, Florida, that was the last night of the tour with the Hayride or the Hank Snow Jamboree Tour. They played before 14,000 people in a stadium that later became the Gator Bowl. After his performance Elvis announced to the audience jokingly with a deep voice: "Girls, I'll see you backstage". The girls in the crowd went crazy in full riot, they jumped up immediately and rushed him to the locker room, and when they finally found him they started to rip and tear his jacket and pink frilly shirt along with his shoes. The guards and the others found him literally on top of the showers where he had climbed, he was scared stiff and looked like 'what'd I do?'. He held his pants in his hands and three or four policemen got to his aid. You can imagine the reaction of the Colonel. He had big dollar marks in his eyes and this was that particular event when he would be completely sold to the idea of Elvis' growth potential of being the biggest act ever break into national stardom, after breaking the act into Florida. This tour was a huge leap in this early stage of his career.
Re: What happened that day?
I know this might be a long shot but...remember in This is Elvis when Elvis is in the limo, filmed for On Tour. That was florida, in fact i think it was jacksonville, where he performed. And Elvis mentions the Gator Bowl and something about being put through the window into a paddywaggon? i think its paddywaggon anyway, do you think hes talking about this night in 55?
