I got this book at an Elvis fair last week.
It was written in 1979 - Marty Lacker worked for Elvis for many years and tells some nice stories.
In the second half of the book his ex wife Patsy Lacker tells her side.
Boy she 'hated' everyone in the ELvis group. Talk about moan, poor Elvis - he even gets a bollocking.
I am only half way through the second half and it is hilarious - she 'hates' them all! (y)
I have that book too, but i have only read parts of it, i have very strange reading habits, i have 3-4 elvis books beside my bed that i read parts in each night, so i got some very rare storys in my head at times :'(
But the Marty Lacker book have some great storys :P and the few pictures that are inside is still today very rare and not often seen.
I got my copy from ebay a few years ago.
I haven't read this book yet. But I heard from others that it's not a bad book. My friend ordered this book in Internet and when she get it I 'll read it.
I've read ALOT Elvis books more then 200. And I can say - almost of them very VERY bad. (n) :angry: Maybe 3-4 of them are good.

These books not bad.
I think Last train to Memphis is great, a real essential.

When you read it I think you will enjoy that period much more. For me it's different, for me it is the period (h) But I also have the second one Careless love, maybe you like that one better.Quote:

Lacker's "Portrait of a Friend" is straight-shooting, no BS, book .......... just like Lacker.
Lacker, to this day, tells things like they are, without mincing words.
Essential, and of course, recommended.
I agree with the statements regarding Mrs. Lacker's take on things ---> very harsh and non-objective. A good example of how events can be portrayed in a skewed manner depending upon how the author views the events.
