Pics from my USA trip - Nashville

I wasn't overly impressed with Nashville, but the visit to RCA Studio B was a highlight, and an absolute must if you go.

The shirt, Cadillac and gold piano are at the Country Music Hall of Fame ... another essential stop, and not just for Elvis stuff either.

The pic of the framed Sun singles was taken near my table at a bar where I stopped for a cleansing ale or seven ...

Nashville is basically a country music destination and is a boring city to visit unless you are into country music. Unlike Memphis which is Rock, R&B, Blues, Rap and Gospel.

Great photos that brought back some good memories of my trip there in August 1998. No i didn't think much of Nashville either but it's worth paying it a visit just for the highlights you mensioned.

Thanks for sharing the pix with us .. they are great.. I am into Country so I liked Nashville and the "Wildhorse Cafe" was one of my favorite places to visit. Dovey ;)

I found Nashville boring when I went there last year, but the highlight was definetly the piano in Studio B. I got some great photos taken sitting at it. I also loved the cadillac and the gold piano too. I just don't like Nashville, it feels run down.

Great pics, thanks for sharing your "road trip". However, I was under the impression that C&W didn't acknowledge Elvis as one of their own. That they thought he was the cause of the downfall of C&W music when he created rock & roll. When was Elvis included in the C&W Hall of Fame, (or is it just his stuff that's highlighted there?)

for me visiting the RCA studio's was special...he recorded alot of songs there,wich i like.

Sorry to hear so many people disappointed with Nashville. :hmm:

I think a lot of people hear Nashville called "Music City USA", and they come here expecting something totally different than what it is in reality. It is one of capitals of the music business world, and the number of recording studios, publishing houses, etc. is amazing. Those places don't make great tourist attractions though. Losing Opryland a few years ago kind of marked a downturn in tourism for us. There do still exist a number of great, music-related sites. Like the Ryman auditorium, Grand Ole Opry House, etc, Wildhorse Saloon. But if you're expecting a lot of Elvis releated stuff you are going to be disappointed.

That being said, I was pleasantly surprised with the fact that the Studio B tour, at least when I experienced it just a year or two ago, was devoted more to Elvis than any one other singular performer. I mean, lots of artists were mentioned in the tour but none received as many mentions from the tour guide as Elvis did. In my opinion, Studio B is an essential part of the Elvis experience. He recorded there on and off for 13 years and those tracks are just such an integral part of the Elvis catalogue. Then when you consider the treatment EP is rightfully given in the tour...I think it is something most everyone here would really appreciate.

A couple nuggets of knowledge I took away from the tour: The Steinway & Sons piano is apparently one of the few things in his life that Elvis' money couldn't buy; Elvis loved it and the studio reportedly would not sell it to him. Studio B closed as a functional studio on August 17, 1977. Though they like to sort of imply that in some way transpired due to Elvis' passing, they will acknowledge it was in no way related.

I love Studio B and the music Elvis made there. I also love Nashville. (Run down? Boring?)

Yeah, that's exactly how it was when I was there. Elvis' Bridge Over Troubled Water (recorded there, as you know) was playing as I walked in.
And he received the most mentions by far, which was very pleasing.
