In RCA and EPE's world, nothing is done the ideal way. So I doubt any awards announcements are going to be done by RIAA.
There are several titles that should be due for an upgrade. Most conspicuous is the fact that his first two albums were both certified gold more than 40 years ago,yet niether has ever recieved an upgrade to platinum status.
Also, the Time-Life series of CDs released about 10 years ago should have at least some awards due them.
Sorry,I get a little fanatical about this!
Personally I would love to see the RIZZ make a public annoucnement that would be broadcasted on MTV and world news that EP is for certain the BIGGEST SELLING ARTIST IN THE WORLD and that would shut up The Beatles, MJ and Brooks fans for good. But unfortunately that's not going to happen.
The last I heard in January Elvis was still #1 solo artist for RIAA US album sales with 117.5 million-Brooks was 2 1/2 million behind. Beatles #1 group with 170 something million. But if you divide 170 million by 4 its only 42.5 million per Beatle:lol: ha ha
I have never seen a RIAA ranking for single sales in the US has anyone else?
Anybody has heard anything???
It's gonna be the same old story for Elvis. He's never going to get the credit he deserves for record sales. To much time has passed and to much documentation lost or discarded.Everyone knows he has sold much more than he is credited with. It's just impossible to get his totals properley certified. To mention Garth Brooks in the same breath as Elvis is a travesty.

Sony BMG have refused to pay for any further research on Elvis' RCA Back Catalogue Sales despite Ernst Jorgensen stating that there were thousands of unresearched sales boxes in the New York vaults. Admittedly they contain receipts for all RCA artists but that still does not let them off the hook in getting Elvis the sales credit what is rightly due to him.
This is a disgrace.

Ok, let's say they don't want to go the extra mile for researching possible upgrades, I mean for example, aint no way that his first album is only gold! There's been countless reissues in both vinyl & cd format since 1956! Gold vol 2 only 1X platinum while vol 1 is 6X platinum? don't make much sense. Moody Blue 2Xplatinum?? But, then what about the present stuff? 30 number 1 is still selling good, maybe Elvis by the presleys etc.
I was 18 in 1977 when Elvis passed away. Back then stores stocked huge amounts of EP lp's, which included all of his work from the fifties, sixties and seventies. Everything sold out when EP died, everything, this was like this everywhere. Those weeks after his death, 100 million albums were said to have been sold. RCA had their presses running 24 hours a day, and could not keep up. Is there any frickin reason that Sony/RCA, whoever they are, won't get this sorted out!
Not only did RCA have their record plants producing product after Elvis died, but they contracted to have Elvis records produced at other record companies-thats how big the demand was. You know
If BMG/Sony finds documentation for sales before 1973 on his back catalogue wouldn't they owe the estate royaltees? If they find sales documents then those are sales Elvis was never paid royaltees on in the 50s and 60s. They may not want to find out what his true documented sales are. I read there was a warehouse in New Jersay which housed tons of sales records which have never been audited for RCAs late 50s early 60s sales.
