I'm not sure, but I believe the suit was designed along with the Dragon suit as a symbol of his love for Kenpo Karate. As you'll notice, both the tiger and the dragon are placed on the Kenpo decal.
The tiger represents earthly strength derived during the early stages of learning. This is the stage where the individual is impressed with his own physical prowess.

You'll notice that the tiger's postition or pose on his suit is almost identical to the tiger on the Kenpo decal. The dragon is also similar with it's head turned and looking behind him. The only difference is the direction they're facing.

This suit is great and it had meaning to it with Elvis' martial arts name being Tiger.

Amazing suit, the belt alone is an amazing piece of work, the more it ages and antiques the better it looks. A thread should be started on just the belts for all the suits, as i believe made alot of the jumpsuits what they were, and different belts with different suits changed the look.
Re: (Mad) Tiger Jumpsuit (1974)
just imagine what a tiger colored macrame' belt would have looked like with this suit , almost symbolizing a tigers tail
