A really GREAT looking suit.

A great-looking suit worn on one of his best tours ever. The belt's really interesting-looking, though...anyone have any idea what the brass appliques are on that belt? Looks kinda weird, and definitely not like a black version of the belt for the otherwise similar white fireworks suit. I've never seen a clear view of this belt.
This belt was given to Elvis in August 1969 as a present by the International Hotel for his record breaking show during that engagement. On the buckle it says: World Championship Attendance Record - International Hotel - Las Vegas - Nevada. In the left upper corner you can see "19" and in the right upper corner "69". There are also stars and eagles on it. Below you can see a reproduction of the buckle.
The belt itself has signs of the Zodiac type figures.
No, I meant the original belt made for (or, at least, worn with) the black fireworks suit. Looks like a round brass applique on the buckle (maybe originally a brass belt buckle, because it looks to me like the designers of Elvis' belts used existing commercially-available buckles, 'horse brass' emblems, and whatever else they could scrounge up for decorating these concert belts) with either layered gold leather or thin brass star-shaped patches at the hips with regular gold star nailheads around the big gold stars and along the black belt strap.Quote:

I'm thinking about making a replica of this suit and so I'm poring over the few photos I have of it and discovered a couple of interesting things.
The first is that the belt -- I've never seen a shot of it and, as far as I know, B&K don't sell it to go with their version of this suit (so there's probably no record of the belt in the materials they got from Bill Belew et. al) -- is tapered in the last few inches of the strap on either side of the buckle and the buckle is much narrower (top to bottom) than others of Elvis' belts. Makes me wonder if this was made for the suit, because it's so out of line with the belts he was sporting by the Fall of 1971, or if it was one made for him (by Mike McGregor or someone else) that he just chose to wear with it. You can clearly see the tapered strap and narrow buckle in the Steve Toli shot above, in which Elvis is looking down.
Also, it looks to me like the studs on this suit are primarily basic round brass studs, rather than stars. There're a few stars, and the cape has a few waffle-faced diamond studs (as worn on the Red Lion and other matador suits, etc), but most of the studs appear to be round, including those around the porthole grommets. Look at the white fireworks suit, though, and the patterns appear the same but it looks like all the studs are stars of different sizes. Same pattern, on suits probably made at the same time, but with different studs.
Cool suit!
hello mates
I would like to know what was his weight at the new years eve show in 1976
adios E.P.
That is my all time favorite suit.
wow love this suit on him - hubba hubba!
Does anyone realize the Black Matador is the icon for the Black Fireworks page?????? Just thought I'd point that out.
Great suit
looks best with the teal scarf and original belt. Isn't this the suit he wore on 9/6/71, the closing show, the first time he wore a cape onstage?
