I really like the Sweet Inspirations. I love the interaction between them and Elvis.

If I were to choose one I would say The Jordanaires because they fit his style better at that time. I like The Imperials as well but mstly on his gospel recordings. The Sweet Inspirations sounded better on their own than when with Elvis on stage. His show didn't allow them to show their skills as much. It was watered down after 70.

I also like the 7-'s group Voice who worked on the Today album and toured with him from 74-75. They mixed in well with Elvis' voice.

I like The Jordanaires. A pity they was not on the 68 TV Special and the Las Vegas shows. I think the Jordanaires made the early Elvis records sound better.

To me it was J.D. Sumner & The Stamps Quartet, I really love them and Elvis singing gospel songs like 'He touched me'...

But though I like The Sweet Inspirations as well...

A very close run battle here for me between The Jordanaires and J.D. Sumner and the Stamps.......After much pulling of hair The Jordanaires have just shaded it!!

    WOW!!!! THAT'S A TOUGH CHOICE...

...mainly because each back-up group worked extremely well with Elvis during their respective time periods. What I mean is....I can't picture J.D. & The Stamps doing the background on 50's classics like HOUND DOG and likewise I don't think it would sound right with The Jordanaires singing back-up with Elvis on stage in the 70's, especially with some of the more dramatic performances that Elvis was into during the 70's. I think Elvis had a great ear for harmony singers and he chose the right groups for the right material that he was performing during each phase of his career.

But if I had to choose just one....I guess I would have to go along with Cliff and choose The Jordanaires for sentimental reasons!!

I would have to agree with you. For the era they were most associated with-they were the best. They were all in the right place at the right time so to speak.

To me JD and The Stamps. I think they are very close of his real roots.
