Just wondering, any photos of EP's drummer for this show as apparently Ronnie Tutt was at his father in-laws funeral, and thus could not perform? Thanks in advance!

This is my all-time favorite jumpsuit. Probably because Elvis was wearing this when I attended my first Elvis concert in Philly on November 8, 1971. I can tell you, this suit is awesome to see in person!

Thanks for the pics which were posted as I have not seen too many pics from the 11/8/71 show.

The one thing that struck me with this suit is, with a name like "Spectrum," you'd think it would be more colorful. I know he wore it at the Philadelphia Spectrum, but still.

Maybe because "Spectrum" isn't the name. It's what the fans started to call it. It has nothing to do with the design. The pattern is portaying falling snow. That isn't much colorful.

Hello, I am quite sure that Gene Ducette would tell you that this suit is called (NAIL/SPECTRUM). It is not the snowlake suit. I do agree that the snowflake suit is very similar, but the snowflake suit has stones on it. you can see the difference very clearly if you have a good picture of both suits. I can supply you with both pictures if needed. I would like to add that i have spoken with Gene on several occasions in connection with names of jumpsuits.

Best regards from James.

How could Gene know that Elvis would perform with this suit in the Philadelphia Spectrum stadium and call the suit Spectrum suit?

If I remember Leroy's answer from somewhere there are actually two jumpsuits called snowflake.
This nail one and the other one with cabochons on them.

Call me cynical, but I seriously doubt that any names were officially given to any of these costumes 35-40 years ago when they were made... To me, the real names will always be the names the fans gave them. Elvis was always about the fans, and that is how these suits got to be known. So to me, it will always be the Spectrum.

all I am saying is: how could the designer know that Elvis would where it in The Spectrum/Philadelphia?
Sorry to say, but the only true names are those that a designer gives to it's work. Others are just alternate names.

Who really cares? You can call the suit whatever you want, just don't try to force others to change their own names for it. I will always call this suit the Spectrum and never will I refer to it as the "snowflake #1 suit". You can call it the "Angel dust" suit for all I care.

It is coincidental that the first place ever on any one of of Elvis' tours was in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at the then SPECTRUM Arena. The actual suits name based on the authority of Gene Doucete, Elvis' designer, he called it the "Nail" or the alternate name "The Snowflake" not to be confused with the suit that was designed 2 years later as the 1973 Snowflake suit. That one had jewel stones, as did the sister suit the "Pinwheel & Stone suit," based off of the 3 Pinwheel suits (Red Lion, Black Matador, Burning Love suits). The true name of this suit was in fact "The Nail/Snowflake suit."
