I always sent cards when Elvis was in the hospital(suffering from exhaustion!;)). In turn, I always received a thank-you note in the mail with Elvis' signature. I'm pretty sure I have posted the picture of it here before....if not I'll re-post.:D

In 1966 I wrote and put together by hand "The Elvis Presley Story"
it had pictures I got from magazines in it and was about 4 chapters long.
A teacher told me to send it to Elvis-I did. Never got a return letter but it was okay with me.

No, it was one of a kind-I realise looking back it was pretty shoddy work-I was just 11 years old and I thought at the time it was a "magnificent manuscript" I know there were errors in time and dates and I got most of my info from magazines which were also full of errors. I think I may have even got his date of birth wrong-I recall hazily the date 1-18-35 as one I used because it was in a movie mag.:D
If he ever looked at it this "magnificent manuscript" I'm sure he wondered where I got all the misinformation:lmfao:

I think, an 11 year old boy, going to so much trouble, it would have been very much appreciated. (y)

I remember back some time ago you wrote quite a story about Scatter and his adventures!

Scatter was easy to write about-there was no real record to follow.
My book on Elvis was just full of mistakes, but not because I wanted it to be that way. No Internet, very few reference books on rock music artists and hardly any books written in 1966 on Elvis. (at least that a poor kid had access to)
But when I wrote it I imagined Elvis picking it up and thinking
"this kid has talent" then imagining he would send me a letter and tell me to visit the next time I was in Memphis......:D
Youth!!!

My wife sent Elvis numerous gifts back in the 70's.She usually got a thank you note with a signature. She still has them all with the envelopes they were sent in.Over the years she came to realize that Elvis never saw anything that she sent.Furthermore the Elvis signature was always signed by a secretary. It was still nice to get a response though. One years she sent a letter to them asking about Vegas tickets. They sent her one of the small round Vegas menu's with their reply. That was a nice gesture.

Around the mid-sixties I sent a book about New Zealand along with my autograph book to Elvis' then record producer Steve Sholes. I asked him if he could present this book to Elvis and perhaps get his autograph for me. Some time later I received a thank you note from Mr Sholes with this autograph in my book along with the Colonel.Mr Sholes looked an honest man so I am sure this is the genuine article. Either way I really treasure this.

Wasn't his official COD 'Neglected to death'?
I'm always glad when the Scatter section in any Elvis book I'm reading is over.
Every time I start a new one, at the back of my mind I know the Scatter chapter is in there somewhere and I'm always glad when it's over :'(

Yes, I sent a letter to Elvis (Elvis, Memphis Tn, the USA) in 1975 I believe. A letter returned to me with the address which I had written myself (cut and stuck known another envelope) I believed in the time(period) that it had returned to me by mistake!! I have never opened it and put it in the garbage .
Maybe there was a word of Vernon or Elvis in it ???
I still want a lot to have opened and thrown it never then....

A few years back I did that with Matthew Broderick and got the same kind of envelope back but I opened it and inside was an autograph and it's real cause I accidently smudged it. Not saying that Matthew signed it but it was not a photocopy.

That's what I did...lol....look for a mare, and get the gelding (of course never rode a stallion) all itchy, lol, so he'd go sideways charming her, loved that! lol (y)

(I was terrible, I'd ride anyone's horses, loved to do so, too (y):)). Was thrown off, too (he was a naughty boy and I was too cocky!!!):D

Now a saddle and bridle for mua :lmfao:(y)

There's a story about just such a thing, two young girls crated themselves and had a friend deliver the crate to Graceland as some sort of pet Elvis had ordered - hunting dogs maybe? The guard called the house to check if Elvis, who was not in Memphis at the time, had ordered anything. House said no and the delivery was rejected. :lmfao:
You just had to make sure you had good timing, I guess.

;) I am certain she has these, as I have received one myself.
In person in Las Vegas I dressed up a huge teddy bear, and I sat it next to the stage where he would be coming out... with my usual "Love from a fan"
One time he said, "Love from a friend?" and like an ***** all red faced and silly, I stood and said, from a fan, but more from a friend.. from then on we always used "from a friend"
