Are we after humourous or profound ones?

The original remark that kickstarted this thread implies serious ones. And I remember a separate thread for funny ones. With that in mind . . .

"There's only been one perfect man: Jesus Christ. And they killed him."

Now, I'm not a religious person (per se), nor a religious advocate, but there is a salience to many of EP's remarks that I find impressive. This may be the finest example. I think this says a lot about the way EP saw himself (i.e. imperfect) and the way he felt humanity generally responds to difference.

"I've got news for you baby, I did 29 pictures like that..." - 68 Comeback Special

"I've never gotten over what they call stagefright. I go through it every show. I'm pretty concerned, I'm pretty much thinking about the show. I never get completely comfortable with it, and I don't let the people around me get comfortable with it, in that I remind them that it's a new crowd out there, it's a new audience, and they haven't seen us before. So it's got to be like the first time we go on."
-From a 1972 taped interview used in MGM's documentary "Elvis on Tour".

"The first time that I appeared on stage, it scared me to death. I really didn't know what all the yelling was about. I didn't realize that my body was moving. It's a natural thing to me. So to the manager backstage I said 'What'd I do? What'd I do?' And he said: 'Whatever it is, go back and do it again'."
-From a 1972 taped interview used in MGM's documentary "Elvis on Tour".

"A live concert to me is exciting because of all the electricity that is generated in the crowd and on stage. It's my favorite part of the business - live concerts."
-Elvis at a press conference prior to his 1973 television special, 'Elvis - Aloha from Hawaii', via Satellite.

"Till we meet you again, may God bless you. Adios."
- said in 1977 at the end of a concert during his last tour.

Yes, maybe Elizabeth is right and someone had a song-request from him. But I think the fans wanted his autograph because they saw the pen was still in his hand and he signed the picture to that girl (what she gave to him after that). Of course he could not give autographs if he didn't want to finish his show yet. :) :) This is my opinion, but I'm not sure why he said that. Anyways, do you have an autograph from him, or a real photo with him, Rosanne? I'm just curious.

These are my favourites from the TTWII outtakes, so they are all from 1970, from Las Vegas :) :

Before he sang 'I've Lost You':

"I'm sorry I couldn't make it up in the balcony, but it would have taken us another hour. (Audience responds) I don't mind, but they want you out in the casino, they don't want you... I have a new record, ladies and gentlemen. It just came out about 10 years ago. No, it just came out about a week ago, and it goes like this. (Intro) How do you like it so far?"

Before he sang 'Little Sister':

Audience: "Come on Elvis! Come up here to the top! Elvis: "Honey, I wouldn't come out there again for love, nor money, I'll tell you what."

Before he sang 'Stranger In The Crowd':

"Now, this is a new song that I have recorded in an album. It should be out by 1982. (Laughter) It's called Stranger In The Crowd."

And my favourite, what he said before he sang 'Walk A Mile In My Shoes':

"There was a guy who said one time, he said 'You never stood in that man's shoes or saw things through his eyes. Or stood and watched with helpless hands while the heart inside you dies. So help your brother along the way, no matter where you start. For the same God that made you, made him, too. These men with broken hearts.' I'd like to sing a song along the same line."

Hi All:

I am glad to see you are all enjoying the thread.

As for the question from TTWII. It was a request for an autograph by a female fan when she saw him sign the picture. The fan attempted to hand him a napkin that had the Hilton Logo on it and that is why Elvis said he could not sign it.

Interesting, I've heard many different theories, but I would think that Elvis would have said Catch you later to the autograph seeker, since he hardly ever turned people down. I've heard that he said that in response to a song request, since he didn't do requests, just one of those things to wonder about, I guess.

Some of my favourites from 'Elvis By The Presleys' documentary. (Sorry, I don't know the exact dates when he said these):

"I've been in front of a lot of audiences, but I always get nervous. After the first couple of songs, I feel okay. But I always go out with the thought on my mind, - Are they gonna like me? - "

"People can stay home and hear you sing, but when they pay their money to come out and see you in a personal appearance - those people want to see a show. They come out to see some action. And if I stood up in front of an audience and did nothing but sing, if I didn't put on a show and if I didn't act like I enjoy what I was doing, they wouldn't come out to see me the next time I went back."

"Lots of times, all I get to see of the city is a hotel room, my dressing room and the stage. I don't mind the hard work. I don't guess anybody would mind it, after all the good things that's happening to me. The only part I don't like is staying away from home so much."

Elvis: "You"
(N.P.) Oh well, Thank you. You like blondes or brunettes?
Elvis: " Oh, I like all kinds"
(N.P.) All Kinds?
Elvis:"Yeah. Female kinds."
(N.P.) Elvis, it has been real sweet talking to you.
Elvis:"Thank you very much, honey, and don't be so nervous. Because there's nothing to it."
(N.P.) ( Laughs) Nothing to it. I think I could'a gotten an interview with the President quicker than I could with you.
Elvis:"(Laughs) Well, I've enjoyed talkin' to ya, honey, and I'll see you around."

After years of believing, I have come to the conclusion there is no god. No meetings in the after life, no nothing. So enjoy while you can.

Hi Sweerheart,
Remember me from years and years gone by? I'm often referred to as an "Angel" I am sent by God to help anyone who needs me... usually it is an animal... I have died 3 times in surgery, once in a horrible car crash...I saw people I knew who had crossed over.. each time they sent me back, as my purpose here was not finished.
I have survived a liver damage that I was told would be fatal.... ;)Oh yeah right, that is why I can lift more than I weigh? I can pass for 40=ish rather than 61... I work everyday, in the yard, I can do anything I chose to do..and right now, I chose to offer you my understanding of how people become so disolusioned with God...
Talk to me...or not....I can hear you, and I love you. "How Great Thou Art"
