Elvis recorded so many great songs which he never performed 'live'. I just wondered what other songs fans on the board would have like to have heard him sing in concert?

This is my list. 1 or 2 songs include impromptu, unrehearsed numbers that he did perform, but I've still chosen to include them anyway:

The first in line
Is it so strange?
Loving you
The Girl of my best friend
Surrender
In my way
His latest flame
Good luck charm
She's not you
Return to sender
Because of love
Viva Las Vegas
Tender Feeling
It hurts me
Any day now
Gentle on my mind
And the grass wont pay no mind
Mama liked the roses
Tomorrow never comes
The next step is love (he rehearses this in TTWII, but did he perform it?)
There is no God (but God)
Always on my mind
Sweet Angeline
Lovin' arms
I can help
Pieces of my life (not sure if he did a live version of this either?)
The last farewell
Way down

I've left loads out, but it could have turned into a very long show! lol ;) I think 'Tender Feeling' from Kissin Cousins, is such a lovely ballad and Id've rather heard Elvis have a go at arranging this and singing it live, than him doing the umpteenth version of 'Love me' or 'Hound Dog'.

What's your list? (y)

There are so many to choose from
I'd sure go with Sam on 'Way Down'. i think that would have been great added to the live shows.
Others... :hmm:
Some of the songs he actually did do live...but should have done them more like 'Good Time Charlies got the blue's' and 'Danny Boy'
Then there are things like..
I need you so
Wear my ring around your neck
I need your love tonight
As long as i have you....i would have loved to here him sing these live, especially when he may have become bored singing the usual 50's numbers like 'don't be cruel' or 'All shook Up'
From the 60's....things like 'devil in disguise' and 'It Hurts me' would have been great sung live along with 'any day now','there's always me'
The 70's...i would have loved to have here him do 'thinking about you'
There are many more obviously....great question EAP_2005 (y)
I going off to think about it some more :P

Yeah - 'Thinking about you', forgot about that one, NightRider. That's a great choice - and a great song! (y)

There is a live version of The Next Step Is Love on the TTWII special edition cd boxset.

Pieces Of My Life was performed live once!

Some of my favorites would be:

Thinking About You
For Ol' Times Sake (1973)
Way Down

And off course the oldies from the sixties: Devil In Disguise, His Latest Flame (one liner somewhere), and for some reason: Animal Instinct (would've loved to hear Ronnie's drums on that one!)

Gotta agree with the consensus....WAY DOWN would have sounded AWESOME in concert!!

I can't believe, especially performing in Vegas as much as he did, that he never performed VIVA LAS VEGAS in concert....that would be cool to hear the arrangement on!!

Elvis seemed to gloss over a lot of his 60's hits in concert...STUCK ON YOU, GOOD LUCK CHARM, DEVIL IN DISGUISE....these would have been interesting to hear in concert, even if he had put them into a medley or something.

GREAT QUESTION EAP_2005!! (y)

Way Down, for sure, but also For the Heart would have been good. I think in retorspect we would have loved Elvis to drop Teddy Bear/Don't Be Cruel in favour of more modern songs.
On the other hand, I would have loved It Hurts Me or If I Can Dream.

FOR THE HEART would have been a cool choice for inclusion in some of his live shows!! (y)

As for dropping TEDDY BEAR/DON'T BE CRUEL, that's a tough call Rick....I really don't think Elvis could have EVER dropped those songs, because many of the fans who came out to see Elvis' shows expected to hear him sing his older hits. Although, I certainly think that Elvis could have perhaps performed these songs separately instead of always combining them in a medley. (I know he did this in the early 70's, and they always sounded quite good when performed separately!) But I also realize that he probably did them in a medley for 2 reasons:

1. So he could get through them quickly, as I would imagine he probably wanted to perform other songs instead of always singing his older hits every night

2. So he could include more of his older songs, he performed them in medleys to increase the number of older songs performed

But to just drop them from the lineup completely is something that Elvis knew he probably could never do....just look at the infamous opening night show in Las Vegas on August 19, 1974....Elvis completely revamped the show, only performing a couple of his older hits and relying mainly on some of his newer material that night....and, as AWESOME of a show as that was, the audience never really got into the show....simply because they were expecting Elvis to sing songs like BLUE SUEDE SHOES and SUSPICIOUS MINDS, and not DOWN IN THE ALLEY or GOOD TIME CHARLIE'S GOT THE BLUES! It's truly sad that Elvis was never able to fully experiment with his concert lineup more, because of the simple fact that the audience paid to see him perform HOUND DOG instead of DOWN IN THE ALLEY...yes, he was able to slip a few of those lesser known songs into his lineup from time to time, but because the audience was expecting the hits, Elvis felt obligated to include them and just wasn't able to really perform the kind of show that I think he really wanted to perform! Which is really a shame, in my opinion! :'(

Hey Curtis --

GREAT LIST!! (y)

Elvis actually did perform a couple of the songs on your list....of course, he did BLUEBERRY HILL quite often in concert, either as part of a medley with I CAN'T STOP LOVING YOU (as in the Memphis concert recorded in '74) or alone, usually during the band intros. when he got to the piano player, particularly in 1977.

Elvis also performed MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE a couple of times in concert, mainly in 1973 I think. (One of the shows was in Vegas in August '73, if I am not mistaken)

Those would have been some great songs to see/hear him perform live though, Curtis!! :D

I would have loved to hear him perform "I Believe" in the 70's. Another fine song done by one of Elvis' heroes (Roy Hamilton) would have sounded even better when Elvis was in the final stage of his life - the big opera voice from the later years would have suited this one!

I also would have liked him to perform songs like 'Danny Boy' more often because, obviously, this kind of song appealed to his emotionality. He only sung it once live in '76 - and he did it pretty well, as a matter of fact.

It would have been wonderful if he performed songs like 'You'll Never Walk Alone' and 'Where No One Stands Alone' more than just once! His talent for piano playing could also have been demonstrated this way.

Other songs I would have liked to hear him do in concert:

- Way Down!
- For The Heart!
- He'll Have To Go
- Pledging My Love
- Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain
- I'll Never Fall In Love Again
- Loving Arms
- Thinking About You
- I Can Help
- Bringing It Back (sung by Elvis himself)
- Susan When She Tried

Ah well, this is not an absolute list, just some titles which I came up with.. there are many, many other interesting songs as well.

I read somewhere that Way Down was planed for the August '77 Tour...

An Acoustic set somewhere in the show could have been great; I would love to hear Tomorrow is a Long time on that one. That in the aloha show could have been great among with Early Morning Rain, and I Really DOnt Want to know also in an acoustic set preformed instead of those silly prerecorded inserts...

His Lattest Flame could have sounded cool with and arragment for the sep '70 tour.

There are lots of songs that where not obscure but hist people would have liked to hear...
