Jumpsuit Expo Opened

After Graceland, the highlight of the next two years will be without any doubt the 'Sincerely Elvis Museum'.

There are not less than 56 jumpsuits on display. Duke, citizen of Memphis and reporter for our collegue's at Elvis Express Radio visted the expo and was overwhelmed.

The suits are placed in a timeline, starting with 1969 and ending with the baby blue suit that Elvis would never where in 1977.

Sources inside EPE confirm that they own 88 jumpsuits: 56 in this expo, 10 in the racquetball building, 3 in the trophy room and 2 in the Afterdark expo.

That means that there are still 17 suits that are left in the vaults.

I am pretty sure that they have one Jumpsuit from 1970, I think it was just before TTWII, on display at Hard Rock Caf? in Hollywood. Does anybody have any information about that suit? I havent been there for a while...

Its at Graceland Plaza across the street from the mansion. It just opened so in September it wasn't there for you to see. I hope to see it on my June trip.

I'm almost as interested to see how nice a job they do with the Catalog that Graceland is putting out for sale on the exhibit, as the exhibit itself. If they do a nice job that could be a treasure for some of the fans around here who are really into that era of Elvis career.

On March 11, 2007, Doc Walker with Sirius radio did a walk-thru the Elvis Jumpsuits All Access Exhibition at the Sincerely Elvis Museum with Angie Marchese, Graceland Archives Manager.

Graceland archives manager Angie Marchese estimates the value of the 88 suits in Graceland's archives from $100,000 to "much, much more," with the American Eagle suit rivaling the value of Elvis' pink Cadillac and the gold lame suit.

Marchese said the new jumpsuit exhibition is in addition to other jumpsuits already on display at Graceland. The American Eagle suit is on display in the racquetball court on Graceland tours. It is among eight jumpsuits on display there, along with four in the trophy building and two in the Elvis After Dark Museum.

In all, Marchese says she knows of roughly 120 jumpsuits, about 20 of which are in private collections.

Marchese says that the remaining 18 jumpsuits will likely be rotated with the existing 56 jumpsuits on display now.

Do you know?

Some of the early suits do not have the macram? belts because Elvis would get them tangled up in the wires while he was performing and they had to be cut away. They were destroyed. That is why he got away from the long, dangling macram? belts.

The Black Conquistador jumpsuit was designed by Gene Doucette. It was inspired by the floor tile he saw in a bathroom. The precious stones were imported from Austria. You cannot get these stones today.

King of Spades jumpsuit ? a lady from Texas had a ring made from one of the stones that is missing. You can see on the right knee, in the middle of the Cross where the stone is missing.

That Vernon used to collect the stones that fell off the jumpsuits and would give them away.

The Gold Inca jumpsuit is the last suit to have a cape.

The jumpsuits with a Native American flair were designed to honor Elvis? Cherokee heritage. Elvis was part Cherokee Indian.

The Baby Blue Silver Lemae jumpsuit is the only one in the collection that Elvis never got to wear. After his death, Bill Belew sent this jumpsuit to Vernon. There was no belt with this suit.

Baby Blue Silver Lamae jumpsuit that was never worn. This jumpsuit did not have a belt. It was very hard to photograph because of its location in a very dark area of the large display of jumpsuits.

I do not have a picture of this jumpsuit. I do not remember it in the collection. You have a 1 out of 18 chance that it is in the Graceland archives and could be rotated in the All Access exhibit.
