I will be listening to Elvis' music and contemplating what life would have been without it. Never mind the comtemplating, it would be too depressing.......

I'm going for quiet contemplation. Reflecting on what Elvis, his music etc. means to me.

I try to set a least a little time aside each day for Elvis' music (don't always succeed). So I don't feel compelled to "drown" myself in it during anniversary week.

There is not enough money in the world that could get me to go to Memphis during the anniversary week!

Never, EVER!

... EVER!! :'(

I imagine I'll be playing some music, watching some videos ... and being bewildered by the fact that it's 30 years, and I remember August 16th, 1977 (well, August 17th here in Australia) like it was yesterday.

Head for Tupelo then:-) 9th August is usually their Elvis Presley Dedication Day. Something big may be happening................ I heard a rumour:-) Cannot disclose more...... yet.

From all accounts the refurbishment of the museum has been a great success(y)

Only trouble is it will be soooooooooo hot and Humid in Mississppi!!!

The buzz of the cicadas at night just has to be heard. But the humming birds and butterflies around the Mockinbird Inn are a joy to behold.

I'm going to Tupelo/Memphis and also going to the concert.

Maurice, are you sure the dedication day is August 9th. The reason I'm asking this is because I'm going with a tour group who go every year and go to the dedication day in Tupelo but we don't arrive there until the 10th.

bittersuite, I'm not sure 100% But I will check it out because the 9th is a Tuesday!? That wouldn't be the best day.

Thanks Maurice. The tour group that I go with will be going to the dedication day so it must be after the 9th.
I can't wait to get there this year. When I went last year, it was the most fantastic time of my life. Even today I'm still talking about it and can hardly believe that I actually walked through Graceland.

The weather was really hot and it didn't help that when I left Ireland it was raining and cold, and then to go into the high temperatures was really hard to adjust to, but I would go through anything to get to Graceland.

Bittersuite, I've just been talking to the Elvis at 13 sculptor, Michiel Van Der Sommen, on the telephone. He says it's the 11th and he will be there in Tupelo.

I also emailed the Elvis Birthplace and awaiting confirmation......just in case we decide to be there too(y)

Thanks Maurice, I didn't think our tour group would miss this as they never do.
By the way, do you go with a group to Memphis. When our group goes to Tupelo, our buses get a police escort - this is really fantastic looking as they stop all the traffic to let us Elvis fan through.

Bittersuite, we usually travel alone. But are picked up at the airport and taken to Tupelo by car.

Dr Vernon Chadwick took us in 1999. Jim browder took us in 2002, and the City of Tupelo in 2003.

We may hire a car if we go this year?

The Police escort was a nice thing to have, did you feel like VIPs?

I plan on watching Elvis movies that day, and may play some music. Will also check out Tcb World. It's always sad on that day, but I try to focus on all the good Elvis did and enjoy the great work he left for us to enjoy!:notworthy

Again, no thanks. I wouldn't ever go to Memphis for the anniversary week, nor would I venture to Tupelo. In fact, I probably wouldn't want to be anywhere in the entire USA during the anniversary ... or even birthday week in January.

I appreciate the fact that many fans love it, but for me being at Graceland at that time would be as close to hell as I'd like to get! Too many people, too crowded and the ratio of ***** fans to normal fans becomes virtually incalculable ...

Actually, I'm going back to Graceland in June, but I'll give Tupelo a miss this time. Won't have time to nip down there anyway.

***** Elvis fans? No such thing:-)

Elvis fans come from all walks of life.

I never thought I would go to Memphis in the first place after Elvis died.

Each time we went it was for a specific reason.

Maybe we'll go to Vienna instead... to see Beethoven..........and the Elvis shop there:)

I hope you have a wonderful time, although it will be a sad occasion , I'm pretty sure you wouldn't want to be anywhere else

For the August "Elvis week" I'll just stay home. As another poster said "There isn't enough money........." , though I certainly have a price, I'm sure nobody would meet it. I went twice in August for it in the past and didn't enjoy it. I will be going for my own personal "Elvis week" in June, to Graceland and Tupelo, The 8/16 I'll probably sit at home and watch Elvis DVDs, and enjoy the Sirius radio boradcast from Graceland in peace.

We may take our children they have not been to Memphis or Tupelo yet.

We have actually encouraged a lot of people to take the trip, America is such a marvellous experience for those who have not been there. There are a great many places of scenic and cultural significance.

Am turning 40 there on the 29th ...

I'll just play some tunes, and in the evening it'll be TTWII. I always figure E would want us to have as much fun as possible.

I sure wish I could join the crew of you that's heading for Memphis. Man, I'm sure it'll be a time down there.
