The above is just a short extract from quite a long (600 word) obituary for DJ, Alan Freeman. RIP. A mere DJ gets a longer Obituary than Elvis did in the broadsheets!!!

The writer obviously does not like Elvis. But that is no reason to write such an erroneous piece! My email has already gone to lettersed@irish-times.ie

Meanwhile ;) Elvis "Aran" Presley is on out TG4 TV service tomorrow night at 9.30. It's about the sweater Elvis was wearing when singing "I Don't Care" in Jailhouse Rock". :cool: They have been showing clips of Elvis singing the song maybe 3 or four times a day!

Only Elvis Presley could have a documentary about a particular style of sweater that he wore once in a movie.That's a bit much even for me.

Jth, What a strange post on an Elvis message board.

Tom O' Sullivan, The guy responsible for the Documentary is a respected Elvis fan here in Ireland. There was a lot of Elvis songs played and he interviewed George Klein, Gordon Stoker and DJ Fontana.
Many Elvis fans complain about the lack of publicity for Elvis music and here we had some great Elvis songs played.

The sweater was just an excuse to get the TG4 TV people interested because of the Irish "Aran" connection. It was a clever ploy and a little bit of fun tracking the sweater. He ended up with a replica given to him by Jennifer Holden. It's on display in the Aran Islands now.

Besides, Elvis does not get a look in on our national channels!

Well I suppose a 600 word obituary in the Irish newspaper is a fair and respectful thing for one of my fav DJ s. But as regards Elvis not having any publicity.........you are wrong ( may have been none in Ireland I dont know about over there) but here in England....every daily paper had the death of Elvis on its front page..most of them were the WHOLE OF THE FRONT PAGE.And not only that Elvis is going to get more and more publicity and exposure like you have never seen before in 2007. Long into the future Elvis will be talked about, wrote about and copied and still people will want more.

A mere DJ gets a longer Obituary than Elvis did in the broadsheets!!!While Alan Freeman was indeed a very influential DJ in the 50s, (and I understand the fact why he's got such a long obit), but Elvis' death was literally PLASTERED on every major paper or magazine when he died. To believe Mr. Freeman got more exposure in copy than Elvis simply isn't true. You should see all the old newspapers I have when Elvis died.

You misunderstand me Paul. I meant actual obituaries in the broadsheets..like the London Times etc.

I know only too well the newspapers were full of Elvis stories 16-23rd August 1977. I was there buying them all...at least in the UK. "TheTimes" obituary for Elvis was a disgrace!

I have seen many front page articles about Elvis when he died but very few actual obituaries from the so-called quality press. Anyone?

It was world-wide news not only in all papers everywhere...T V coverage too..The radio from the BBC had songs going nearly all the following day.Obituaries!!!!!!!!..who reads them??? I don't.

Yes I know it was worldwide news on TV etc:-) Who reads Obituaries? Well thinking people do when a great man dies.
