Well there are so many that I feel bad for left them behind, like so many live versions from the old hits during the 70's and late 60's, lots of great records from the 50?s and even some movie soundtracks stuff, but hey this is about favourite we can pour all of them here, anyway If I only can to chose one that would be, extreme dificult task, but I?ll go for the '58 version of "Big Hunk of Love" never heard Elvis before or after getting so wild and frenetic with his singing, this is red hot, this is someone giving it all before leavin it all behind, we never hear Elvis going this wild till December of 1968.

Hey great choices everyone! I like all of the stuff that your listing, so cool that he fourth option of the poll is the one with more votes.

Here are some other songs that haven´t been listed and I think are the most, from the 50's we can not left behind "Tutti Frutti" and "I Got a Woman", those are just exiting, so much energy on those, from the 60's I think the studio version of "WHat's I Say" deserves more atention to, and one performance tha must be taken on count is the live version of "Blue Suede SHoes" as it apeared on "THIs Is ELvis" (now available an unedited on the Special edition 3 dvd set).

One song from the 70's that I think is very cool and seems not a lot of people like is ELvis take on Leiber/Stoller: "IF You DOnt COmback"; yeah I know is not that great, but it is just very 70's cool stuff, with the wha wha guitar and funky druming and everything, its not about musical show off, its just about fun, so have some. IMHO, it has to belong to the 1950's. There are so many great Rock N Roll tracks Elvis recorded that just changed the music industry. Although each decade produced its share of Rock Hits, none of them can top those 50's....:notworthy

If you're talking hard rock Elvis, you're talking the 56-59 period, or maybe 68-69. Once the 70's dawned, Elvis pretty much turned down the heat on the hard rockin' stuff, with a few exceptions. The only track from the 70's I can really say matches the fire of his earlier rock stuff is "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On". Really intense stuff.

Mind you, I love the ballads and the country-flavored stuff just as much or maybe more than his hard rock songs.

i love elvis in the 70's but mainly from 68-73-4 but when it comes to rock elvis in the 50's is unbeatable they didnt call him the king of rock&roll for nothing he changed music forever he changed opinions and he changed what was accpetable it it was all because of those rocking 1950's tracks

What some people consider "hard rock" amazes me. Never Been To Spain???? Puppet On A String???? Really?

memphis69
01-17-2009, 04:00 PM
I don't understand about "Puppet on a String". This is really classified as a ballad. I think "Never Been to Spain" really rocks. It may not be classified as a "hard rock" song but i think it is one of Elvis' best of the 70s, and Elvis didn't record a lot of "rock songs" in the 1970s.
