Hi All,
I often wonder why (even though it was filmed;) ) you never/rarely see footage of Elvis press confrence in the Hilton Hawian Village/ prior to the Aloha shows, does anyone know if any complete footage of this press confrence exists?? as you often see the Madison Square garden press confrence footage aswell as the astrodome confrence around a lot in various Elvis documentarys, but hardly ever footage from the confrence he did in Hawaii?
Hope you can help
Many thanks
Sam

I think the main reason for this little interview and the press confrence was never released before (including deluxe set) is the way Elvis talked and looked. He was a little -off the planet-, his speech was a little blured, but you can find portions of both on the single disc as a easter egg, just watch it...and you will now what i mean. I believe he was very, very nervous for this show..and was blown away about the idea he was going to peform for a lot of people, his largest audience ever..really a thing to get nervous about...it also showed in his tracklist for this show...he skipped a lot of up-tempo songs, and never really got loose in this classic concert..only on fever and suspicious minds he seemed to let the nerves go..and moved and danced on the beat of the music...but he sure proved who ruled the 70's music world in the Aloha show!

yes it does exist, it has E.P. talking and answereing questions about his JAPANEESE fans, etc... in total it is 28 minutes long[a boot] only a portion of it is on the new dvd single.

The reason why you don't see this one much is because Elvis was high on the drugs that he was taking. He was also high during the other press conference of Aloha From Hawaii.

He was also high during the other press conference of Aloha From Hawaii. Now, I take offense at this statement. Elvis was esxtremely nervous about this show, just like Patrick mentioned, and to say he was high on drugs is absolutely ludicrious! (However Patrick, he also really got into it on "Burning Love" and Big Hunk Of Love" too.)

Agree Leroy, I guess if your doing a concert that 1.5 billion people are going to see its fairly human to be scared! :'(
Has anyone here seen the Complete press confrence (not edited etc) or even better does anybody have it?
All the best
Sam :D
I hate to say it but Elvis looked and acted like he was high as a kite during the press confrences. The sit down interview in the white suit is almost unbearable to watch. Its so depressing.Remember that just following the concert he was found in his room totally drugged out and unable to do anything. His problems were not that far in the background during this time.

You might take a offence to it but you can tell it. That is not nerves working on him. I have been around people who use almost the same kind of drugs and they acted the same way. I have a book by the Memphis Mafia and they said he was high on the drugs he was taking and that they told him not to go on in front of the cameras but Colonel Parker made him. His voice just wasn't at 100%. He sounded sort of out of it.
He didn't take any drugs much during the January shows. He was at 100%. The way he was acting their was alot different then the press conferences. Yes, I know it is different from Press Conferences and Stage. But you can tell he was nervous during both of the Aloha shows. That is being nervous. The Press Conferences he was high. That is why I don't want to see them and that is one of the reasons why EPE is going to release the full Press Conferences. I had a friend who collects different press conferences of different singers, he called them up and asked if they was going to release those Press Conferences in full form and they told him no. Why would they say no? That was just before Aloha so it should be release but they told him no.

Elvis's slurred speech is a dead-giveaway of downers or sleeping pills...I hate to burst y'alls bubbles...he was definitely 'on' something during that press conference and most definitely during the other press conference as well....

You are absolutely correct.Like I said I hate to watch them. It's the same thing you find on so many recordings of his concerts.I have always been surprised that Elvis got away with it for so long with the public seemingly wearing blinders.

I believe it was a combination of meds, and exaustion, but to say he wasn't on something is foolish, just look at his eyes at both press confrences, he was practically slurring his words, and to say he wasn't much of a talker at press confrences[take a look at the HOUSTON 71 FOOTAGE AGAIN] , HE WAS RELAXED and with it, people we have to except he had a problem and it was starting to effect his performances example, look again at the backstage footage from RAPID city, with the little girl[he was on the planet zarp] , so lets not try to cover up this , i ask you to take a look at his summer tour in 76, thgis was a man who was simply indulging in drugs, and relying on his laurels, believe you me i would love to say other wise, but i choose to take my blinders off[just my opinion though].

The summer of 76 was a disaster.Even the shows in 77 were an improvement.

my point5 exactly, although the winter 77 tour was also dismal, he was just so bored/tired, and loaded , I guess GOD saw that he needed rest.
It's not much solace but at least his last few shows improved from previous ones.

I don't think anyone has seen it in full. I never seen it available before in full. All we have is what is available from the VHS tapes and the Special Edition of Aloha. I know that the audio is in full and was release but not the video.
